On arrival at Glenmarie we were greeted by drab overhead skies with intermittent showers. This was a continuation from the previous evening’s torrential downpour. We played the Garden Course and twenty of us teed off on time at 8:00am. The overcast skies quicky cleared and we enjoyed good weather for the whole round. The course played well and as ever the Glenmarie greens were fast and true. All flights were round in good time and we adjourned to Restoran Twelve Roads for lunch and prize giving.

EL Pres was away in Scotland enjoying his Easter Eggs. Moneybags led the proceedings by welcoming guest Gianni guest of Pietro, Espen, Steve guest of Dave and Colin and Lee guests of Benji.
Before moving on to the prize giving it was with sadness that we heard of the passing of Craig McEntyre. Craig had been a regular Klogger for about ten years before returning to Australia in 2014. Craig was a good friend of Chez and Chez made a tribute to him; this was followed by a moment of silence and a toast to Craig. Further information on Craig is available on the KLOGS website.
“Craig was a very likable, handsome guy. Had an accounting software business. Played state cricket for NSW when he was younger.
He played KLOGS regularly in the 2000s.
He would spend a lot of time together travelling around SE Asia for work and playing golf in his spare time. He was an excellent golfer. Hcp 3. Lefty. Won the Sungai Long Golf & Country Club Championship 3 times, I think.
Around Craig, nothing was a problem. Very easy going. Loved a laugh and a good time. He loved his kids, although they were Australian based.
He had to move back to Australia in 2013 due to an illness from which he never completely recovered.
Very sad to hear of his passing. I will miss my dear friend. ”
Twenty players attended the March game which was brought forward a week to accommodate EL Pres’s travel plans. As part of the Ramadan package we had F & B vouchers from the course, a hearty breakfast was therefore enjoyed by the early bird arrivals. As is the case during the fasting month Malaysia’s golf course undergo maintenance. We played East 1 and West 3 the former having been hollow tined. The course still played reasonably well. Those that teed off on West3 were round in good time, the same cannot be siad for those on the other nine, they finished nearly an hour later.

Lunch was taken at Pantai Seafood, we took advantage of the set menu and doubled up on the Pork Knuckle. EL Pres was pleased to make Frans Baaker and Lee Chapman new members, Alastair Sim was welcomed back for his second game.

Torrential overnight rain had fallen overnight in Kuala Lumpur. It was difficult to discern fairway from lake. Most of the bunkers were inundated with water and were unplayable. Notwithstanding this the course stood up very well, the fairways were still good and the reliable greens ran fair and true. We had 23 players tee off on time and all were finished in reasonable time.

Lunch was taken at the forever reliable Restoran East of Highway, where fine Chinese food expertly selected by EL Pres was washed down with an abundance of cold tiger. EL Pres got the prize giving underway by welcoming our 3 guests, Peter Andrews guest of Moneybags returning to KL where he used to work after over 20 years, Frans, Jonny, Lee all on their second games and Brian Robb last minute joiner on his first game.
There was only 1 significant nomination for COTD Michael Fenner Smith for dropping a full bottle of Drambuie on the restaurant floor resulting in a sticky mess, along with the heinous crime of wastage of quality alcohol.

EL PRES advised that the May Away will be South of Chonburi between Monday 19th and Saturday 24th May. Golf Tuesday to Friday
Next month’s game will be during Ramadan and as EL Pres is going to the UK the game has been brought forward a week and will therefore be held on Wednesday 12th March 2025 venue to be advised.
Thanks to Ricardo for helping with the photos and sponsoring the wine.
To take advantage of the excellent Glenmarie Valley course we played on Thursday. In spite of the persistent heavy rain the course played remarkably well, it was a little soggy in places and it was buggy on track. The days play didn’t start well for Allan Wright, at the buggy station his clubs were nowhere to be seen. The flights on tee box 10 were swiftly re-arranged to allow play to get under way. Allan teed off using hired clubs provided by the course. On the second tee his clubs arrived having been “borrowed “
by a local professional conducting a lesson on the course. Play was fast and we finished in good time.
Lunch was taken at Pantai Seafood, where we had a full turnout of twenty-four players, the usual excellent food washed down with 60 bottles of beer. EL Pres welcomed are 2 guests Lee Chapman and Jonny McCausland.

KLOGS XMAS Game Templer Park Thursday 13th December 2024
For the KLOGS Christmas game we returned to the majestic Templer Park. Twenty-Four players including two guests attended the game moved to the Thursday, as Wednesday was a holiday for the Birthday of the Sultan of Selangor. The course in spite of the torrential rains Malaysia has been encountering was in great condition. Players had been requested to wear their Santa Hats and fill their flasks for tee off on their first tees, compliance was generally good although there were some who didn’t understand and were fined. Play was reasonably fast and we finished by 12:30pm.

Great start to yet another fantastic K.L.O.G.S away. I am sure that every one of you enjoyed it as much as I did, if not more.
With some arriving in Chiang Mai earlier than the tour start date, having already discovered the more interesting spots to visit, we all converged at the designated bar on Sunday evening. Initial indications were that it promised to be a memorable week. 20 players off to a good start.
DAY 1. Alpine Golf Club, Chiang Mai
Alpine Golf Club has a fine reputation and our most recent experiences here held this course in high regard. The course itself did not disappoint but unfortunately, the greens were awful. Describing them as slow is as underwhelming as the greens; they were extremely inconsistent and much slower than the advertised stimp reading of 9, leading to many a three or even four putt.
Teeing off from hole 1 on the B course, we finished in reasonable time on the C course. Following the round, our exalted troupe wandered onto the dining terrace ready to feast on the days rewards.
El Pres opened proceedings with his usual aplomb and humour but quickly got down to business. Appreciating the course and layout, he too was critical of the greens and noted that the course condition had deteriorated somewhat.
Opening with 3rd place then 2nd place. El Pres, like any game show host, then left us hanging for the final result. We’ll be back after the break………….
3rd Place Wayne Beck 103/33 points. 2nd Place Brian Jeffers 98/36 points.
And,

B course hole 3 – Matt Hall 10.3m B course hole 7 – Tony Lynch 8.0m
C course hole 4 – Iain (Vice) Wise 6.5m C course hole 7 – Benji Sheehy 15.0m
Birdies on the day – Ted Parslow (1) and Benji Sheehy (2)
And the golfer who took first place today……………..
1st – Ted Parslow 91/38. Well done Ted.
Interesting interlude to the formalities was when Wayne was caught using his phone just as his name was announced as the winner of “3rd Place”, and looking confused as he went up to receive his prize, El Pres snatched his phone and slung it away. Incredibly, Benji plucked it out of thin air in a clean grab. After he thanked Benji and retrieved his phone, Wayne sat down saying, “How could I have won?” to the crowds response of “you didn’t, you came third!”
COTD Nominations;
Wayne and Brian for throwing ice on the bus.
Iain for pretending to be the President found wearing an El Pres KLOGS shirt.
Iain for general poor etiquette on the course and getting up Joe’s knickers repeatedly.
Iain was again unanimously voted the COTD

DAY 2 – Highlands Golf Course, Chiang Mai
Suitably stretched and lubricated prior to arriving at Highlands, we all, ahem, stepped off the bus ready to tear the course apart. Playing the A 9 and B 9 our five groups teed off slightly earlier than designated allowing us to finish in good time. The course was in great condition.
El Pres opened proceedings after a great selection of dishes to kick start the rest of the day.
Echoing many, he declared the course to be in great nick and, although the greens were also very slow, at least they were consistent.
Today was the first day of the horse and jockey event, the one where we all randomly choose a horse and jockey with whom, you aim to win or come dead last.

Joe for spending more time on his phone than on the green.
El Pres for being late on the bus and having his alarm set to the incorrect time zone! Hmmm.
The vote on this wasn’t actually required but the roar when Joe’s name was mentioned was deafening.

DAY 3 – Highlands Golf Course – Day 2 of the Horse and Jockey event.
Playing the B and C nines this day and I was pretty impressed with the course combination. Although the green speed hadn’t improved it was a pretty nice day out. Kicking off pretty much on time, our five groups got around in reasonable time.
And on to the most important part of the day, the presentation. No such antics as phone throwing prevailed on this occasion however and El Pres, as always managed it pretty well.
There were two NTP holes this day with the 8th hole on the B course and also the 8th hole on the C course.
B Course Hole 8 – David Hewitt 4.6m C Course Hole 8 – Geoff McLaws 11.3m

COTD Nominations
Benji for winning everything.
Iain for putting people off, poor course etiquette and general bad behaviour.
Dave Evans for having a caddie that looked like his daughter.
Matt for his outrageous behaviour in the early hours prior to golf (lost phone, lost cc, lost stomach contents)
There was really only one nomination fitting the behaviour of a true COTD…………
Matt was voted (unanimously) COTD.

DAY 4 – Gassan (Ghastly) Legacy Golf Club. Team Competition abridged scramble.
This course does not rate a photograph.
Teams:
Geoff McL, Dave E, Rikki I, Allan W
Paul G, Iain W, Wayne B, Peter K
Berni S, Peter D, Brian J, Frank McK
Colm O’D, Ted P, Joe H, David H
Benji S, Pietro M, Tony L, Matt H
A quick look at the scorecard for this course sent a shiver up many a spine within our group, The refreshments taken on the way to this nightmare were quickly absorbed as we realised that every single tee shot on every single hole, was over water. Armed with bags full of spare balls we set off on a very crowded and slow beginning.
It quickly became evident that the only benefit of playing this course was ensuring the ball collectors had an income for the next month. Many of us had a lot of difficulty just reaching the fairway and with few or no escape routes, many balls ended up learning to swim.
I found the layout ridiculous even though a few of us could clear the water on the tee shots. As I watched ball after ball go into the water, however, I wondered how anyone could propose wanting to play here or even consider membership at this course.
It was indeed a slow round but we retired to the dining room for our lunch, much beer, much complaining and finally the presentation.
Opening with “Well, we wont be coming back here!” El Pres pretty much echoed how we all felt about this tragedy.
Announcing the team positions from last to first, we also took a quick tally of balls lost, but no names. A minimum of 120 balls were lost between us on this round of golf.
Team 1 – 5th Position +10 Team 3 – 4th Position +9
Team 4 – 3rd Position +6 Team 5 – 2nd Position +5
Team 2 – 1st Position +3
COTD Nominations:
Iain for being nominated every day.
Pietro nominated his team for hitting 11 balls into the water on one Par 3.
Peter Kenyon for yelling “how far is it?” on El Pres’ backswing.
Pietro was voted COTD (he must like the mug) for putting his own team in.
A vote was then taken for the COTT and there wasn’t much argument. Our day 2 winner – Joe Heggie.
Pietro magnanimously accepts his award. Joe Heggie graciously accepts his COTT.
Brian Jeffers then rose to his rather large feet and began complimenting people. Firstly he praised Paul and Iain, but mainly Iain, for their organisation and running of yet another successful tour, he welcomed the new guys on tour and then presented PG with a cup honouring him as President of the Grumpy Fuckers Society, cup presented.
El Pres then offered a further compliment to Iain for his work in organising the tour and to Lek for being such a wonderful host and tour guide.
PG for President!
As always, our sponsors make the prizes possible, Thanks Sigi, for your continued support and donation of KLOGS golf balls. It should be noted that shortly before the tour commenced, Sigi delivered on his promise with 24 dozen golf balls stamped with the K.L.O.G.S logo.
The October game was switched to a Thursday so that we could play the excellent Glenmarie Valley course, the course being closed on Wednesdays for weekly maintenance or was it really to give EL PRES and extra day to recover from his dodgy British Airways experience. Whichever the reason the valley as usual played really well in spite of the recent monsoon rains, we have been experiencing. It was for this reason we had to put up with buggy on track. Play got off on time and with only minimal delays we were all finished by 12:45pm.
As has been the norm when playing Glenmarie we adjourn to Restoran Twelve Roads for lunch and prize giving. Once again, the restaurant excelled and we dined in style with a good range of dishes selected by EL PRES. It was good to see Clive join us for lunch. Vice Pres as usual made a pratt of himself by asking the restaurant staff to go and buy peanuts, translation issue resulted in 10 packets of monkey nuts being delivered, to the amusement of the crowd.

It was good to see EL Pres continuing with his recovery after being fitted with his new bionic knee. Play got underway on time at 8:00am. However, when the 3 flights assigned to start on the second nine arrived at tee box 10, they were blocked by a 6 ball who were just teeing off. It was quickly decided to jump ahead and start on holes 11 and 12. The leap frogging to avoid further jumbo flights continued throughout the round. Flights 4 & 5 eventually formed their own jumbo flight to complete the last 4 holes of their round. The weather was cooling with a couple of slight showers. The course was in good condition and the greens were fair and true. The first 3 flights finished in good time, however flights 4 & 5 the magnificent seven were severely delayed.
Lunch was scheduled to be held at East of Highway but following a phone call the day before we were advised they were closed. Arrangements were quickly adjusted and we adjourned to Pantai Seafood instead. With a couple of no shows the 15 diners squeezed on to one table, this required serious intervention by EL PRES to ensure everyone had sufficient elbow room. Food selection was simple as we ordered form the Pantai 20th Anniversary Celebration Menu. Once the late arrival from flights 4 & 5 had arrived lunch was served. The food was excellent albeit a tad expensive. Plenty of cold beer was downed.
EL PRES got the prize giving underway by welcoming our guests Steve Hennessey, Peter Davies and Brian Stubbs. Before moving on to the prizes he fined all those that didn’t play the course in the correct order. As there was an absence of any Ladies Tee Boxes he continued in fine mode and collected a total of 180 MYR for all the misdemeanours.
On to the NTP’s.

Hole 14 Peter (due to Vice Pres screw up this should have been hole 6)
It was good to see EL Pres back on the course with his new bionic knee, a spectacular recovery considering the surgery was only 4 weeks ago. Play got underway on time at 8:00am. Overnight rain had softened the course so it was buggy on track. The extra walking obviously didn’t unduly affect our illustrious leader see later. Even with the nocturnal downpour the course was in tremendous condition with the greens running fast and true. We all completed in good time and were all back in the hutch shortly after noon.
The usual restaurant has now decided to close on Wednesday’s so we adjourned to 688 Restaurant 10 minutes drive from the course. Due to a shortage of transport Michael and Benji required a grab to get from the course to the lunch venue. This task should have been fairly straightforward. The hungry masses were however made to wait, as after 20 minutes the grab travellers had still not arrived. Calls were made and it transpired they had gone to a nearby hawker stall which had the same name as the Restaurant. A further grab ride and they eventually arrived.
There was only 1 nominations for COTD Michael Fenner Smith for booking a grab and taking himself and Benji to the wrong restaurant.
