September 2023 Game – Templer Park Golf and Country Club – 20/09/23

COMMITTEE: EL PRES – PAUL GEDDES

VICE PRES – IAIN WISE

M.O.F –   MICHAEL FENNER-SMITH

SCRIBE – GEOFF McLAWS

Once again, K.L.O.G.S members and guests experienced a wonderfully prepared Templer Park GCC for our September monthly game. Starting rather later than usual at 9.10, all flights made their way to the 1st tee with all four flights teeing off without a hiccup.

Conditions to begin with were windless and very warm under the morning sun but thankfully, the clouds rolled in and a coolish breeze came up. Slow play in front of our flights resulted in 2.5 hrs for the front 9 and 4.75 hrs for 18. The threat of a downpour all around us on the back nine held off until all four flights were on the last four holes.

Monkeys! They were everywhere today with many a shout from another group to alert us to monkeys in our buggies. Hopefully, apart from food, no-one lost anything of value to the little thieves.

Unfortunately, the waterlogged clouds could not hold off any longer and we were all fairly drenched coming in. El Pres called a halt to the competition at 17 holes due to the amount of water on the greens and course, and because we were due at the restaurant by 2pm!

After a hasty departure from the club, most of us found the restaurant rather easily but some had a more difficult time with Waze or Google maps not identifying the location of the restaurant. With the kitchen closing at 2.30pm, El Pres had pre-ordered the food and the food was on the table as the latecomers arrived. It turned out to be a hugely enjoyable lunch, great food and plenty of wine and beer.

Following our gustation and consumption, El Pres opened proceedings. Welcoming first time guest Iain McFarlane and second timer Adrian Harrison, he then espoused the rewards of playing a great golf course in Templer Park as a challenging track with quick greens (11 on the stimp today) and always presented well.

As there were players that did not complete 18 holes, scores were adjusted to 17 holes only.

Winners today:

NTP’s

Hole 2 – Thomas Stadler 4.4m  (How El Pres avoided a COTD by awarding this to Ricardo first is bewildering but did reveal Stan’s error in not handing in the score sheets)

Hole 8 – Geoff McLaws 6.8m                         Hole 16 – Adrian Harrison 4.3m

Hole 11 – Craig Schull 6.2m.

Craig was able to attend the lunch but had to leave before the presentation. No photo but your name in lights, Craig.

Lowest Gross – Iain McFarlane 81/40

Last Birdie – Iain McFarlane (stewards enquiry into validity of handicap 😉

Winners and grinners (scores for 17 holes)

3rd Place – Thomas Stadler with 85/31                     2nd Place – Lim Chin Hong 81/35

1st Place – El Pres Paul Geddes 77/36             Paul, wincing at how cold this beer is.

No trouble for this man though!

COTD:

  • Stan was variously nominated for not handing his score sheets to the scorer post game. (and arguing)
  • Josef was nominated for having worn his KLOGS shirt to the Loose Cannons the day before and wearing the same shirt to the KLOGS game.
  • Josef for wearing his KLOGS shirt as pyjamas.
  • Josef attempted to get his own back but these were recorded in the words of El Pres as ‘Failed Rebuttals’.
  • Craig Schull nominated himself prior to the presentation for playing like a C U next Tuesday on his home course.

Josef was voted the COTD by a clear majority, much to Stan’s relief.

As always, we must thank our generous sponsors for their continued contribution to the society.

  • Sigi for his ball sponsorship and supply.
  • Ricardo for providing wine for our lunches and prizes.

Here are a few great pics from Ricardo. Thanks Ricardo
