The aims of the Society are for gentlemen to enjoy the golf and àpres golf with equal, and all-consuming, enthusiasm.

• Membership is restricted to gentlemen only, and capped at 50 active players.
• Any member can propose a candidate for membership. Prospective members should be well known to their sponsor and have a playing ability of no more than handicap 28 — the sponsor must ensure the declared handicap is realistic (no sandbaggers, bandits or crocodiles). The same proviso applies to guests at home games and away tours.
• A candidate must play 3 times as a guest, with at least one of those qualifying games alongside an officer of the Society. On acceptance, the candidate pays the joining fee before being confirmed as a member. Playing the 3 guest games doesn’t automatically qualify a candidate — the Committee weighs character, integrity, willingness to contribute to the KLOGS culture, and golfing ability.
• The Committee reserves the right to terminate a membership in the event of unexplained, prolonged non-attendance (6 months or more) at monthly meetings, or in the event of gross misconduct.

The Society meets at a designated golf course; the date may be varied at the President’s discretion depending on course availability and weather. This is generally the third week of the month, except December, which is the second week unless advised otherwise.

Players are expected to firmly commit to attend and play at least 2 days in advance, so the Committee can secure tee times.

The Rules of Golf as laid down by the R&A apply to all games, with the Society’s own rules and local club rules taking precedence where they differ. Members are urged to familiarise themselves with the rules. Notwithstanding this, the President may use discretion to make on-the-day adjustments (e.g. suspending internal OBs, or pick/clean/place under abnormal conditions). Where a member abuses the rules, the Committee may issue a written warning — three warnings and a membership can be suspended or withdrawn. Neither ‘gimme’ putts nor mulligans are allowed in KLOGS games.

Minimum prizes each game

• 🥇 First place — a specifically designed trophy, dated for the event, kept by the winner (who downs a mug of beer during the presentation)

• Last birdie, as per the card
• Nearest the pin — front 9
• Nearest the pin — back 9
• Lowest gross
• Longest drive
• 🤡 COTD — a glass of beer containing a ball, to be downed

The minimum prize for each category, including the winner, is a sleeve of golf balls. No participant can receive more than one sleeve of balls — in the event of multiple wins, the better prize is awarded and ties go to countback. The one exception is COTD, which stacks on top of any other prize.

At the start of each game players exchange scorecards. Each card must record the player’s gross score and that of the marker, and must be verified and signed by both. Trophy games are based on Stableford points using the KLOGS handicap system (see below).

A member’s first game in KLOGS is based, wherever possible, on their current club or approved issuing-authority handicap; failing that, the Society may accept a declared handicap. Thereafter, the Society’s own handicap system applies:

• Winner: cut 4 strokes
• Second: cut 2 strokes
• Third: cut 1 stroke
• All other players: +1 stroke, up to a maximum of 28

For the winner, the revised handicap is subject to further adjustment if points scored exceed 40 — e.g. 44 points cuts 4+4 (8 points total), 47 points cuts 4+7 (11 points total), and so on. Single-figure handicap golfers cannot receive cuts that would take them below scratch.

After the AGM, the incoming President has the right to adjust a member’s handicap if, in his opinion, it’s too high relative to others.

Countbacks are decided, in order, on nett scores: last 9 holes, last 6, last 3, last hole, then (if still undecided) the 18th, 17th, 16th and so on in descending order.

The President can use discretion to override the above adjustments where the guidelines wouldn’t produce a fair result.

Four elected officers hold designated responsibilities during the year.

President (El Pres)

Ensures all Society events run smoothly, including delegated tasks such as arranging monthly games, food & beverage and away-game logistics. Organises match-day flights, makes local rulings, collates results, and presents prizes. Maintains the handicap system, makes the final call on new members, and issues formal correspondence on the Society’s behalf where needed.

Vice President

Helps the President wherever necessary across all presidential functions, and deputises for El Pres in his absence.

Scribe

Produces the monthly newsletter, covering the day’s major events and anything else likely to appeal to members.

Treasurer (Moneybags)

Keeps the Society’s accounts — collects the money, pays the food and golf bills from Society funds, buys the prizes, and maintains the inventory of trophies, balls and shirts.

Officers are elected at the AGM by members. If a vacancy arises during the year, the Committee proposes a replacement for adoption by members via simple vote at a monthly meeting.

A guest can be brought along at any time, preferably with 5 days’ notice given.

For monthly trophy games, guests are not eligible to win 1st, 2nd, 3rd or COTD — they can still win last birdie, NTP (front or back 9), lowest gross, or longest drive. The same criteria apply on Day 1 of away tours.

KLOGS is a not-for-profit society. Fees are intended to cover the cost of golf, prizes and reasonable food & beverages. While a moderate cushion of funds carried forward each year is desirable, fees should be reviewed annually to avoid a large accumulated surplus, taking into account planned outgoings like balls, shirts, trophies and advance booking deposits.

Fees payable

Joining fee — RM100 Annual subscription — RM100

• Annual subscription isn’t payable in a new member’s first year, if the joining fee has been paid.
• Monthly green fees are generally set annually at the AGM, with the Committee free to adjust to meet prevailing costs.
• Guests pay the same green fee as members.
• The Committee may call on members for special donations to the Society, should the need arise.

RM50 (a jug of beer) — maximum 2 fines per outing (RM100), for:

• Violating the KLOGS dress code — failing to wear appropriate golf attire and/or the Society shirt on the course
• Using, or receiving, mobile phone calls on the course
• Failing to pass the ladies’ tee box
• Other misdemeanours brought to El Pres’s attention, where a fine is considered appropriate

The Committee endeavours to organise two of the monthly trophy games away from the KL area, usually in May and November — 4 rounds of golf over 4 days.

• Day 1 — the normal monthly trophy game; the usual home-game handicap adjustments and prize rules apply.
• Days 2 & 3 — normally set aside for the tour championship, played off USGA handicap. A prize (shirt or other attire from the course pro shop) goes to the winning player on the first day, and a trophy to the overall 2-day tour champion. A Horse & Jockey sweepstake runs across these two days — the winning horse and jockey take 60% of the purse, and the 13th-placed horse and jockey take 40%. No handicap revisions are made on these two days regardless of scores, except for the tour champion, who is cut 4 strokes plus a stroke for every point scored over 80 across the two days — a revision that applies only for the rest of that Away.
• Day 4 — the team money game. Formats may change depending on circumstances. The tour agent is invited to provide trophies to the three players with the best Stableford scores on the day.

🏆 Klogger of the Year

Awarded to the member who accumulates the most Stableford points in trophy games over the year. Best 6 counting scores qualify — if more games are played, the lowest scores are dropped.

🎭 COTY Trophy

A light-hearted but highly prestigious accolade, awarded to the member who, in the opinion of fellow members, has been most in breach of good and accepted standards during the year, or engaged in an incident of notoriety. Decided by confidential email poll among members ahead of the AGM.

Other awards

Other awards may be given at the Committee’s discretion.

The Society’s AGM is held after the first golf outing of the calendar year. At the AGM, the President presents a summary of the year’s activities and events, and the Treasurer tables the Society’s statement of accounts for adoption by members present.

The outgoing Committee may recommend nominations for honorary membership, ratified subject to a member vote. The election of officers to hold position for the next 12 months is voted for and ratified at the AGM.

As and when appropriate, the President may appoint a sub-committee or an individual to review changes to the Constitution. Any such amendments are tabled for adoption at the AGM, ratified by a two-thirds majority vote in favour.

If major changes to the Constitution are considered warranted, the incumbent Committee will seek views and input from past Presidents of the Society, prior to release for adoption at the AGM.
