KLOGS February Game – 2026

25th February 2026 at Sungai Long Golf and Country Club

OFFICE BEARERS

The Day’s Play

Steve Ryder (co-Scribe)’s first game report, so be kind and gentle with praise or insults.

A great day after massive levels of stress for the organising committee – who’s in, who’s out, who’s paid, who still has to pay? It is up to all members and their guests to be clean and clear on their availability and payments. Without the
organising committee there are no games.

A good early start at the Jack Nicklaus Signature course (reportedly the first international standard course in Malaysia) and ideal for the older fellows as still using imperial yardage ……. The greens were a mixed bag of quality but everyone had a good, pretty hot, day.

Going forward we should all strive to minimize the stress of the organising committee. ChezPrez is sufficiently stressed before, during and after. Iain is only 32 years old but has years of organising committee stress.

NTP’S AND NOVELTIES

NTP hole 3 – 176 yds – Index 5 …… No one
NTP hole 8 – 161 yds – Index 13 ….. Tony Thomas 1.28m
NTP hole 14 – 121 yds – Index 16 …… Pietro 6.50m
NTP hole 17 – 157 yds – Index 4 ……. Des 4.12m

A potential points festival on par 3’s for anyone with a 22 and above handicap as
evidenced by a 5 pointer – well done Tony!

Last birdie of the day went to Iain Wise.

PLACINGS

Lowest Gross went to Alistair with a very respectable 79 but could have been a low 70’s round if he could just putt a little harder.

Nominations for COTD

There were several nominations for COTD as below:

Joe was considered safe for the day

Clive (obviously for the putt out instruction)

Chappy for hitting a shot onto someone’s kitchen

Iain for taking TEN shots to get into the bunker before retiring hurt on that hole

Chappy for being loud about the NTP bag before the game as “he would be the only one needing it” and after zero NTP recordings from his flight, was awarded COTD for February 2026

Spill over from January was the prestigious COTY award and this was given a great deal of thought and consideration and the winner was Matt Hall, runner up Joe.

Klogger of the year 1st place Benji aggregate 226 average 37.7

Klogger of the year 2nd place Paul Geddes and Matt Hall 222 average 37

Klogger of the year 3rd place Clive Gordon 218 average 36.3

The Day’s Play

We had perfect golfing weather at the excellent Glenmarie Valley. Conditions were cool and slightly overcast with buggy on course for most of the holes. The days play started with two flights from both tee box 1 and 10. Play was fast and we finished in good time.

Lunch was taken at Restaurant Twelve, where we had a turnout of sixteen Players + honorary member, Richard Moss and Chez who could not play due to injury. The usual excellent food washed down with 60 bottles of beer. Iain welcomed our new guests, Laurance Beattie and Miguel Morales.

There was a great turn our of old Tankards, Allan’s from 2003 and Tony’s from 2004. Let’s see if we can get more next year.

Chez played his first game for Klogs in 2002 and encouraged all members to try and attend every game. He thanked Sigi and Ricardo, our sponsors, these past few years. Chez says that he is very happy with the way the society has been run and only minor tweaks would be needed to improve things.

November 2025 Game – Vung Tau, Vietnam

November Away to Vung Tau, Vietnam, 17th to 22nd November 2025

Tourists Left to Right: From Left to Right Colm O’Donovan, Benji Sheehy, Tony Thomas, Stephen Hopcroft, Stan Constantinides,  Matt Hall, Allan Wright, Frank Mackenzie, Paul Geddes (EL Pres), Charles Halford, Andy Bryson, Pietro Martucci, Iain Wise (Moneybags), Brian Stubbs and Peter Dabrowski, Joe Heggie MIA.

EL Pres: Paul Geddes

Moneybags and Scribe: Iain Wise

Fines Master: Frank Mackenzie

Klogs returned to Vung Tau Vietnam after a seven-year absence. Seventeen tourists had signed up sixteen of which met at Saigon airport to catch the bus down to Vung Tau. Those taking the MAS tour flight were frustrated in having to wait for the sole Air Asia traveller – Stan, his flight being delayed and then encountering the extended queues at Vietnam Immigration. The traffic was busy and it was nearly four o’clock when we arrived at our hotel the Muong Thanh in Vung Tau. After reacquainting ourselves with the Vung Tau nightlife it was off to bed to be up bright and early for the next day’s golf.

DAY 1. Sonadezi Duc Chau

Sonadezi Duc Chau is a new addition to the Vung Tau portfolio of golf courses. This Greg Norman design was opened in 2021. The course was in good condition and relatively quiet. The weather was fine when we teed off but a storm and squall came towards the end of the round which meant seeking shelter for nearly an hour whilst the rain passed.

The overseas members were given a special welcome along with guests Andy Bryson and Charles Halford. The tour virgins were identified Brian Stubbs, Tony “Sausage” Thomas and EP.

And, the winner

1st – EL Pres 79 for 44 points.

Day 1 COTD Nominations;

  • Stan spilling Tony’ Baileys on the bus, not being able to reach the towels on the top shelf of the locker and more annoyingly delaying the tour bus departure from the airport the previous day.
  • Joe for hogging the toilet whilst on the phone to his missus and preventing EL Pres from using the facilities.

Whilst Joe’s crimes were significant Stan really pissed off everyone holding up the bus and was voted the clear winner

DAY 2 – Bluffs Ho Tram Day 1 of 2 Day Away Championship (Horse & Jockey)

For Day 2 we returned to Bluffs Ho Tram. This Greg Norman design is not typical of South East Asian golf courses. The course is nestled in the sand dunes and made more difficult by the strong wind that we encountered for both days here. The course was busy and play therefore quite slow. The course was in good condition.

NTP’s

                  Hole 2 – Benji Sheehy 13m                 Hole 11 – EP with a fantastic 32 cm

The leader after day 1 of the 2 day Away Championship Allan Wright  with 40 points who received a Bluffs Ho Tram Golf Shirt.

Day 2 COTD Nominations:

  • Matt for numerous offences

The winner was unanimous – Matty taking the COTD.

DAY 3 – Bluffs Ho Tram Day 2 of 2 Day Away Championship (Horse & Jockey)

On returning to Bluffs Ho Tram for the continuation of the 2-day Klogs Away Championship we were again met by very strong winds. As is the tradition the players tee off in reverse order, those with the best scores from day 1 teeing off last. As there was a competition also going on we were all moved to the tenth tee. Due to the congested course play was slower than the previous day, the last group finishing an hour later than the previous day.

NTP Dual hole winner Hole 7 – Tony Thomas 4 m, Hole 15 Tony Thomas 18 m

Day 3 COTD Nominations

  • Matt for hitting Moneybags with his ball
  • Matt for playing the long par 5 beside the road. Careering his tee shot down the road wiping out a Mercedes and 3 motorbikes, when asked on the green what his score was replied “boggy”.

Matt was voted (unanimously) COTD again.

Tour Dinner Don Quixote Spanish Restaurant

For the tour dinner we adjourned to the Don Quixote Spanish Restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. EL Pres selected a variety of starters and tourists selected their own main courses. What must be a first is the dinner was attended by all the touring party. Winner of the day Stephen treated the group with a couple of bottles of good red wine from the proceedings of his ill-gotten gains.

DAY 4 –Vung Tau Paradise Team Competition 4-man team scramble.

Teams:

  1. Paul, Pietro, Charles, Brian
  2. Colm, Iain, Frank, Allan
  3. Stan, Peter, Andy, Stephen
  4. Benji, Joe, Matty, Tony

For day 4 we had a short 20-minute bus ride to Vung Tau Paradise. Here we played the B & C nines. The weather was fine and playing off the white tees we got off on time. The course was in reasonable condition; the small greens were however very slow.

Team 2 – 4th  Position +14                 Team 3  – 3rd Position +9

Team 1 – 2nd Position + 6                                      Team 4 The Winners + 5

Day 4 COTD Nominations:

  • Matt. – For abusing Joe on the tee box the incident being recorded by the caddies and widely circulated to all the others caddies during the round.

There being no other serious challenges Matt was voted COTD

Having moved our game from the Wednesday to the Thursday so we could play the The Valley course it was disappointing to be advised by the club 5 days before our game that the Valley would be closed and that we had been transferred back to The Garden course. After further shenanigans with the booking system, we managed to get all the flights consolidated into 2 blocks off tee boxes one and ten. Twenty players therefore got off on time. The weather was good and the course also in reasonable condition.

We were round in reasonable time and adjourned to Twelve Roads Restaurant for well-deserved beer and food.

September 2025 Game – The Mines Golf & Country Club

Wednesday 17/09/2025

The Mines Golf Club….how the almighty have fallen. The course itself and it’s quality, gave the impression that it was competing with Bukit Unggul, yet charging like KLGCC.

Perenial favourite and outright shoe-in for the COTY this year, Joe Heggie arrived in his Porsche, with little or no shame, ready to attack that award once again. Clive Gordon noticed this, and said, “not on this day, buddy”, hence the rivilary for the day had begun. Alistair Sim was caught doing 30 push ups on the first tee, but was not fined for such actions, as he argued that, he was trying to solicit new clients. Jonny McCausland, a new entry this year, was busy trying to recover from the lack of sleep, from the previous night’s sleeping arrangements, saying the balcony is a great place to sleep and I should keep out of his business. Stan was at the game apparently, but could only be seen by the top of his head, above the blades of grass. Martin Middleton, wore his Miami Vice style lens in the rain, as to maintain his overall aura. It was for effect apparently.

Boys teed up in wet conditions, and there was a constant light rain through out the game. Under trying conditions, scoring was not high and lack of run made the course play significantly longer.

The results for who won nearest to the pins, or last birdie are being calculated by NASA, and we should have the results by 2026, but Paul awarded, and only he will tell you why, best Gross to Mike Garwood.

Lunch was held at the East of Highway Restoran, and a stalwart in the KLOGS dining roster, and which Geddes has part share….

One particular flight of Brian Stubbs, Alistair Sim, Matty Hall & Andrew Chez, were group nominated for fines on the day since they were slower than a sloth on a caffeine detox. This seems like a first in recent memory that a whole flight received such a prestigious award.

Although no photos were taken due to Alan Wright’s continous and ongoing litigation with Victoria Secret and the use of his likeness, some video was salvaged.

Becoming a bit of post game regular thing, the boys ajourned to Jalan Bangkung for frozen margaritas and watch Chez make a fool of himself.

Scribe Report –

Glenmarie Valley

17th July 2025

For the July game we once again returned to the Valley course at Glenmarie, moving the game to the Thursday as the Valley is closed on Wednesdays for maintenance. We had a record turnout for the year of 28 players which included 5 guests. The new system of players paying on line in advance worked very well with all players making payment a week before the game. A big thanks as this makes management of the game with the club so much easier. The golf course was in reasonable condition considering the extended dry spell we have been experiencing.  All flights were round in good time and we adjourned to Restoran Twelve Roads for lunch and prize giving.

KOTA SERIEMAS SCRIBE REPORT

18TH June 2025

We all got up bright and early so we could tee off first and therefore avoid the possibility of Jumbo flights impeding our progress – this was the advice given by the club management.  All went well for the first 8 holes and we sped around the course. It was then that the best laid plans of mice and men started to fall apart. The complete numpty of a starter decided to populate the course with the jumbo flights, what we were trying to avoid. The consequences were that the second nine holes for all flights took nearly 3 hours. The management when confronted about this couldn’t give a toss. Needless to say, Kota Seriemas is now on the black list and won’t be revisited until things have improved. This is a shame as the course is good and also reasonably priced.

Lunch was taken at the ever-reliable Restoran East of Highway. Most players were there quite quickly apart from our intrepid travellers Joe and Lee who managed to arrive nearly half an hour after everyone else and thus missed the excellent serving of pork two ways. The food was excellent and accompanied by ample quantities of beer and wine

EL Pres got the prize giving underway by welcoming our guests Steve Hopgrove and Garry Noble on his second game. Klogs were also pleased to make Alastair Sims a member.

On to the NTP’s.

Tour Lead and Moneybags:   Iain Wise

Whip Master: Matt Hall

Fines Master: Frank Mackenzie

EL Pres could not it make due to business commitments, the tour was therefore led by Moneybags. Ten players attended the May 2025 Away to South of Chonburi, 9 members and one guest Andy Bryson a friend of Moneybags from Dubai. Our base for the week was the Areca Lodge Hotel. Similar problems to our last visit with bus access were encountered which meant we were ferried by the hotel buggy to and from the bus each day. This did not cause much inconvenience as it enabled us to bypass the major traffic jams. After checking in we met in a bar across the road called Luck 1. This bar had odd bar stool arrangements and for later nights we met at Heartbeat.

DAY 1. Laem Chabang

We returned to familiar territory playing Laem Chabang on day 1. The course did not let us down and was as ever in excellent condition, and was probably the best course we played during the tour. We played A & B nines and as the course was quite empty, we got away ahead of time and were back in the club house earlier than expected.

With a small field the tour leader decided that players could win multiple times as he did not want to return with balls to Kuala Lumpur.

The overseas members were given a special welcome along with our sole guest Andy Bryson.

DAY 2 – Chee Chan Golf Course Day 1 of 2 Day Away Championship (Horse & Jockey)

Day 2 took us to the relatively new Chee Chan Golf Resort; we would play this course twice for the 2 days away Championship. On arrival we were me by a persistent drizzle so we all took shelter at the driving range where we took the tour group photo. Again, the course was quiet and play was fast for the 2 three balls who finished an hour in front of the lethargic fourball made up of the four musketeers.

  3. Benji, Joe, Andy. Matt (The four musketeers re-united

For day 4 we played Khao Kheow which is Thai for Green Mountain. We played A & B nines as C was under intensive renovation. The course played long even when we reverted to the white tees for the second nine. It was buggy on track due to the large overnight downpour. The weather was again very hot which affected the scoring of the older teams!!!! The course and clubhouse are starting to look a little tired. With ten players we had 2 threeballs and a fourball and played a KLOGS version of adapted Scramble.

Team 3 – 1st Position +4

Matt COTD Day 4                      Joe Heggie graciously accepts his COTT.
