The February game, the first in the Year of the Dog, was held at the impressive Kota Permai Golf & Country Club. This is an excellent venue, very well maintained and challenging in all aspects.

With two late drop outs, 34 players including 4 guests (Ford Anglia, sorry Inglis, Niall Murray, Mahmud M and Adrian Skiba) were all ready to tee-off on time (1pm) from 2 tee boxes. Unfortunately as last year, the same could not be said to be true for the Club; we had to wait for morning golfers to finish before their buggies and caddies became available. Anyway, we did all get off but play was generally very slow; the flights starting at Tee #10 in particular had to endure very slow play throughout; at 1 point all 4 KLOGS flights were waiting at the drinks hut at Hole#6 at the same time, so the final group finished after 7pm.
These issues aside, the course was in great shape with greens in good condition, fast and tricky.
The weather was initially fine, then became overcast & thundery later in the round; however, apart from a brief shower of light rain ~ 6pm, the rain held off and we were all able to complete our rounds after which the group adjourned to the New O&S restaurant for the post-game dinner.
The (good) food was selected by El Pres accompanied by 70 bottles of beer, plus 12 bottles of wine provided by RICHARD RODWELL (our sponsor for the wine prize). The only complaint was that the food was also very slow to arrive so it was after 10pm when the evening wrapped up.
Results
The monthly medal winner for February was Pietro Martucci, with an excellent score of 85 for 48 points (cut 12 !). Runners-up with 42 points were Paul Geddes (83, cut 2) then Kaz Takita (91, cut 1), positions decided on countback. Lowest gross was Niall Murray who par’ed the course despite hitting out of bounds on his final hole and missing a couple of short putts for a 6 on Hole#3; highlights included an eagle on #1 and birdies on #11 & 12.

COTD
We had 7 rather weak nominations this month for COTD.
- Iain Wise & Victor for having the same driver and not being able to tell them apart, other than one was stiffer !
- Iain Wise for his pronunciation of La Bodega
- Geoff M for cursing loudly on Victor’s downswing
- 4th Flight for dropping 2 holes behind
- Paul Geddes for nominating Rafael, a guest, as COTD months earlier
- Stan for deflecting earlier COTD nominations
- Rick Brown only playing 9 holes and not taking advantage of the opportunity to do something more beneficial than accompanying his playing partners for the other 9 holes.
Not unanimous this time, but Rick Brown was voted as COTD
Honorary Member
For his earlier services to KLOGS, for being a regular tourist & for continuing to play competitive golf even though in his 80th year, Mike Smith was appointed as an Honorary Member.
Thanks
To Barry Cousins for making the restaurant arrangements
May Away
The May Away will be to Vung Tau, Vietnam from 15-20th May 2018. For more details and to register, please contact Iain Wise (16 players currently registered).
March Game
This will be on March 21st, probably at Tropicana
Fines
Only 1 jug this month apparently, for Niall’s OB on his final hole. However El Pres has clearly learnt from Fines Master Martin Walsh and fined numerous people Rm20 for miscellaneous offences (Edwin, Victor, Rick, Robert, Mahmud & Joe)
