It has been a long time since KLOGS graced the fairways of Monterez G&CC. Although the course is on the short side, playing from the blue tees offered some tricky drives.

We welcomed 2 guests, namely Brian Imrie and Alan McNicoll. A total of 16 were down to play but Klaus cried off with the flu and Glen cried off due to work. And Jimmy was a no-show? (after El Pres reviewed his emails it seems Jimmy was a “no” to the September game but a yes to the Away, whoops ticked the wrong column!!) And Andrew packed it in after 10 holes with a recurrence of elbow tendinitis. So just 12 kloggers submitted score cards and the key results were as follows:

  • WINNER – Stuart Taylor 84/41 and cut 5. This was the second month in a row that Stuart has won (he was cut 8 after last month!!) and it is the first time that most of us could remember someone winning twice in a row (please feel free to advise us if anyone can remember it being done before?) so to celebrate this momentous occasion and him being such a smart bastard (and making us all look like mugs again!) El Pres fined him RM100 which was roundly encouraged but all insundry!!
  • Runner-up – Tony Morris 95/36 and cut 2.
  • Third-place – Robert Frager 95/35 and cut 1.
  • NTP hole 3 – Ian Wise 48’3” (yes they were big greens!)
  • NTP hole 15 – Bernhard Romahn 10’8”
  • Longest Drive – no one crossed the line to qualify….although Bernhard protested that he had done so, but as he already had an NTP he was ignored! The protest was a little slow in coming from Bernhard; a bit like his golf!!
  • Lowest gross – John Laidley 84
  • Last birdie – ?

The full list of results:

1. Stuart Taylor – 84/41

2. Tony Morris – 95/36

4. Karl Muir – 86/34

5. John Laidley – 84/32

6. Richard Rodwell – 88/32

7. Iain Wise – 99/32

8. Barry Cousins – 104/31

9. John Preston – 95/30

10. Bernhard Romahn – 97/30

11. Brian Imrie – 94/29

12. Allan McNicoll – 102/29

COTD nominations were varied, but the clear winner on the day was John Preston for treating us all to a prolonged bout of extremely boring verbal diarrhoea!

The evening session proved to be a boisterous and alcoholic affair with plenty of rather average food and masses of vino – 12 bottles of wine consumed and loads of beer.

Next month’s venue is still to be confirmed, but don’t forget the very reasonably priced November Away is to Siem Reap where there are lots of interesting temples, in cluding Angkor Wat, to explore. Numbers are still on the light side so we would encourage you to join the trip as you all know how well our first adventure away to unfamiliar pastures went back in 2009!

Costs have been revised slightly up to be about RM2500 – 2600 due to the Ringgit losing ground to the US$ but that may change again. If you haven’t confirmed to El Pres please do so sooner rather than later to assist with the planning plus flights are not always as easy to get as they are to other destinations. To those non tight arses among the group I am told that Business Class fares can be purchased for around RM1000. The courses are good in Siem Reap so be brave and take the plunge and join us!!

As always we are very grateful to the sponsors being Ye Old Club House, Wines Direct, City Golf and Robert Frager.

Thank you to Andrew Robinson for being the Stand-in Scribe and Moneybags
