Klogs returned to Vung Tau Vietnam after a seven-year absence. Seventeen tourists had signed up sixteen of which met at Saigon airport to catch the bus down to Vung Tau. Those taking the MAS tour flight were frustrated in having to wait for the sole Air Asia traveller – Stan, his flight being delayed and then encountering the extended queues at Vietnam Immigration. The traffic was busy and it was nearly four o’clock when we arrived at our hotel the Muong Thanh in Vung Tau. After reacquainting ourselves with the Vung Tau nightlife it was off to bed to be up bright and early for the next day’s golf.
DAY 1. Sonadezi Duc Chau

Sonadezi Duc Chau is a new addition to the Vung Tau portfolio of golf courses. This Greg Norman design was opened in 2021. The course was in good condition and relatively quiet. The weather was fine when we teed off but a storm and squall came towards the end of the round which meant seeking shelter for nearly an hour whilst the rain passed.
The overseas members were given a special welcome along with guests Andy Bryson and Charles Halford. The tour virgins were identified Brian Stubbs, Tony “Sausage” Thomas and EP.

1st – EL Pres 79 for 44 points.
Day 1 COTD Nominations;
- Stan spilling Tony’ Baileys on the bus, not being able to reach the towels on the top shelf of the locker and more annoyingly delaying the tour bus departure from the airport the previous day.
- Joe for hogging the toilet whilst on the phone to his missus and preventing EL Pres from using the facilities.

Whilst Joe’s crimes were significant Stan really pissed off everyone holding up the bus and was voted the clear winner

DAY 2 – Bluffs Ho Tram Day 1 of 2 Day Away Championship (Horse & Jockey)

For Day 2 we returned to Bluffs Ho Tram. This Greg Norman design is not typical of South East Asian golf courses. The course is nestled in the sand dunes and made more difficult by the strong wind that we encountered for both days here. The course was busy and play therefore quite slow. The course was in good condition.

DAY 3 – Bluffs Ho Tram Day 2 of 2 Day Away Championship (Horse & Jockey)

On returning to Bluffs Ho Tram for the continuation of the 2-day Klogs Away Championship we were again met by very strong winds. As is the tradition the players tee off in reverse order, those with the best scores from day 1 teeing off last. As there was a competition also going on we were all moved to the tenth tee. Due to the congested course play was slower than the previous day, the last group finishing an hour later than the previous day.

NTP Dual hole winner Hole 7 – Tony Thomas 4 m, Hole 15 Tony Thomas 18 m

1st Overall Stephen Hopcroft 2nd EL Pres 71 points (ocb with better 2nd day score)

Tour Dinner Don Quixote Spanish Restaurant
For the tour dinner we adjourned to the Don Quixote Spanish Restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. EL Pres selected a variety of starters and tourists selected their own main courses. What must be a first is the dinner was attended by all the touring party. Winner of the day Stephen treated the group with a couple of bottles of good red wine from the proceedings of his ill-gotten gains.

DAY 4 –Vung Tau Paradise Team Competition 4-man team scramble.

Teams:
- Paul, Pietro, Charles, Brian
- Colm, Iain, Frank, Allan
- Stan, Peter, Andy, Stephen
- Benji, Joe, Matty, Tony
For day 4 we had a short 20-minute bus ride to Vung Tau Paradise. Here we played the B & C nines. The weather was fine and playing off the white tees we got off on time. The course was in reasonable condition; the small greens were however very slow.
