Palm Garden was in good condition, although the lack of rain in recent weeks was visisible. The usual lush green fairways have turned a bit yellowish. The greens were on the slow side. A distant thunderstorm chose to take a track away.

Palm Garden, a Ted Parslow design, is a beautiful course. The current Ramadan specials kept the green fees in check so that the KLOGS koffers were not depleted too much.

After a withdrawal due to injury and one no-show 11 KLOGS members and 2 guests teed off from the Eugenia and Bismarck nines.

The results of the day are as follows:

  • 1st – Mike Smith with 93 for 38 points (ocb) Cut 4
  • 2nd – Hans Bohi 89 for 38 points (ocb)
  • 3rd – Richard Rodwell 90 for 36 (ocb)
  • NTP front nine – Jeff Pearce
  • NTP back nine – Klaus Kretzschmar
  • Longest Drive – Richard Rodwell (driving the green on a par 4)
  • Lowest gross – Karl Muir 85
  • Last Birdie – none

Honesty Jugs: two, Telephone abuse: one

We assembled on the R5ve Restaurant terrace for a fish and chips dinner and prize giving. El Pres welcomed the guests and thanked our sponsors. Bernie Schobert joined the dinner although he was suffreing from a painful muscle strain. One 3-ball picked up a lone Australian player on the course, who joined us for dinner.

El Pres presented the winners mug and the rescue wood voucher to Mike Smith, a bottle of fine wine to second place Hans Bohi and a sleeve of balls to third place Richard Rodwell.

While presenting the novelty prizes it was mentioned that the longest drive marker refused to measure Richard Rodwell’s longest drive which reached a par 4 green with the comment “ it’s not on the fairway”. I think that marker should have been nominated for COTD.

After an initial lack of COTD nominations, someone nominated Mike Smith. He heard a phone ringing without realising it was his in in pocket. No contest COTD Mike Smith.

El Pres then annouced his retirement from KLOGS and resignation as El Pres due to personal reasons. The assembled members expressed their shock and thanked him for his longlasting service to KLOGS. Since this occurrance is not foreseen in the KLOGS constitution, VP Rick Brown will take on the role of El Pres until end of the year. The remaining committee will come up with a pragmatic solution in due course and continue providing KLOGS members with unsurpassed golfing enjoyment.

Our sponsors are a main reason that we can play at good golf courses and award members with trophies, attractive prizes as well as “KLOGS” signature golf balls. In order to show our appreciation we encourage members to support our sponsors.
