April 2018 Game – Staffield Country Resort

20180418_161210_resized_1.jpg

The April game was held at the popular Staffield Country Resort which, as always, was in very good condition. 26 players including 3 guests (Wayne, Hakan & Chin Hong) teed-off from the Western & Northern nines. Unfortunately, although there were few other players out on the course, there was one very slow four ball who tee’d off in front of Flights 1-4 so those groups were delayed throughout; eventually the four ball dropped out at hole #13 so two flights played through but then the four ball cut back in again (apparently having stopped for prayers), so further delayed the final two flights. They then encountered heavy rain and traffic so arrived well after the others at the restaurant. Flights 5-7 had no delays so all finished quickly.

The weather was initially sunny & hot, then later became more overcast and cooler.

The players then adjourned northwards to the trusty East of Highway restaurant, some arriving an hour ahead of the final groups. We were joined for dinner by Richard Moss. The (good) food was selected by El Pres (thanks, Iain) accompanied by numerous bottles of beer, plus some good wines provided by RICHARD RODWELL (our sponsor for the wine prize).

Results

The April medal winner by a clear margin was Ron Linden, with a score of 91 for 45 points (cut 9). Second with 94 for 42 points was Stan C (cut 2) with Paul Geddes third with 83 for 41 (cut 1).

March 2017 Game – Staffield Country Resort

20170315_161458Resiz

The March game was held at the very popular Staffield Country Resort which, as always, was in very good condition. With one player missing (Ricardo, apparently with passport issues ?), 19 players including a couple of returning KLOGers – Peter Kenyon & John Arkinstall – and 3 guests (Edwin, Helmut & Siegfried) were ready to tee-off from the Western & Northern nines. Unusually, there were few other players out on the course so the groups were able to tee-off early and with no delays, some groups made very good time.

The weather was initially sunny & hot, then later became sunny & very hot, causing a number of players including your scribe to flag in the heat. However, it was good to actually finish a KLOGs round this time, the last two events being rained off towards the end.

The players then adjourned northwards to the trusty East of Highway restaurant, some arriving an hour ahead of the final stragglers. The (good) food was selected by El Pres (thanks, Iain) accompanied by numerous bottles of beer, plus some good wines provided by RICHARD RODWELL (our sponsor for the wine prize). RICARDO did not play but was there in spirit(s), have kindly delivered a further 6 bottles of wine carried over from the previous month.

Results

The March medal winner by a clear margin was Enzo Filoni, with a score of 43 points (cut 7); Enzo shrugged off the heat to finish with 23 points on the second nine. Tied at 39 points so settled on count-back were Ron Linden (cut 2), Geoff McLaws (cut 1) and Robert Frager (uncut). (Notably, our guest, Siegfried posted the 2nd highest score at 41)

Screen Shot 2017-03-16 at 9.51.14 AM

  • NTP winner northern : None (the only contenders having won other prizes)
  • Longest drive : Iain Wise (Enzo having won overall)
  • Lowest gross : Robert Frager (Geoff having placed 3rd)
  • Last birdie was John Arkinstall
  • Richard Duxbury was presented with a sleeve of balls, as well as getting the best value from his round.  Richard also won the lucky draw – a free round for 4 at Kota Permai donated by KPGCC as compensation for the buggy / caddy issues at the last game.

COTD

We had 5 nominations this month for COTD.

  1. Pietro for declaring the course “easy off the whites”
  2. Enzo for his efforts with the tape measure while trying to measure his longest drive – measuring off ~45m with a 30m tape measure from the 200m line, rather than measuring back from the 250m line
  3. Helmut for driving off across water to completely the wrong green, then hitting a bunker near the same green, but then hitting out of the bunker to the correct green and stopping within a metre of the flag
  4. Bernie – for not telling Helmut his mistake !
  5. Your scribe, for jumping into the wrong buggy on a few occasions

Enzo was unanimously voted as COTD

Barry Cousins made a bid to chair the dinner and brought his own (see photo below) !

Fines

Two players failed to pass the ladies tee – Andrew & Helmut (the ball technically passed the ladies tee but hit a tree, and returned to sender)

Your scribe was also fined for telephone abuse on Hole #1 but in mitigation, he was taking a returned call from Ricardo explaining why he was not present (Ricardo – you owe me !)

May Away

El Pres highlighted that we currently have 14 people registered for the Chiang Mai Away in May; more are welcome
