Scribe Report
February, 2013
Kota Permai Golf and Country Club

The committee’s decision to play at this prestigious golf course turned out to be a real treat, well worth the small surcharge. 10 members and 3 guests took advantage of this opportunity. This course is arguably one of the best courses in Malaysia. Fairways, bunkers and greens were in immacualate condition. Registration went off smoothly so that the planned 1.00 p.m. tee-off was possible.
Unfortunately our overseas member Gary Cooney, visiting all the way from Ireland, had to withdraw due to a bad back. A three week touristic stint in Hua Hin prior to the game may have contributed to that condition. Or was it a visit to the Beach in Kuala Lumpur? We also welcomed back overseas member Frank Mackenzie from Ireland who has to decide between the May KLOGS Away or bear hunting in Canada – the latter will attract an automatic COTD.
Two past El Pres Roddy Foo and Des Hassan, who has rejoined KLOGS, enjoyed the afternoon’s golf.
Past El Pres Rick Brown is recovering from a back op. Past El Pres Richard Moss now has a new hip and was seen augmenting his pain medication with generous amounts of liquid refreshments. To both, all KLOGS members present extended their best wishes.
Also on the road to recovery is Craig McIntyre who throughout 2012 was very ill and unable to join us for any golf. As you all know Craig is one of our best golfers playing off a handicap of 1 (most of us only dream about such a number!!) so it is great to hear that his health is on the up and up!! We look forward to welcoming Craig back to the fairways of the Klang Valley and of course on the “Aways” where he is one of the stalwarts and of course great company. We all look forward to sharing a beer with you soon Craig. Take care.
The weather held up nicely, due to our caddies’ mumbled sorcery and we were off to a cool afternoon’s game. The scores reflect some excellent golf with 4 players in the 80’s, notably Bernard Romahn who tore up the course with a blistering 82. In fact Berhard’s 3-ball was so fast we did not see them again until the last hole. In fact at one point the course marshal admonished us to play faster. That was quite funny since there was no-one behind and we had a 3-ball in front of us.
The very undulating greens were tough to read for some including yours truly. Putting against or with the grain left putts either short or go way beyond the hole.
After the final tally we had the unique situation that 3 players accumulated 41 points. Bernhard deservedly won on count-back. John Preston and Stuart Taylor also came in with a credible 41 points.
The score sheet shows that most came in below 100. Frank Mackenzie, suffering from the Hua Hin effect, and Roddy Foo had a bit more.

- NTP Front 9 Andrew Robison 35’8”
- NTP Back 9 Ian Wise 5’
- LD was not awarded due to other prize
- Lowest Gross Bernhard Romahn 82
Honesty Jugs zero
Phone violation: Gary Cooney for forcing El Pres to call his hotel to make sure he had got back from the hospital ok. Gary was bundled (with great difficulty) into a hotel van where he had to stand due to the pain (they breed them tough in Ireland!) to be taken to hospital for a pain killing injection amongst other things!
After the game we adjourned to a nearby restaurant which had been recommended by Barry Cousins. He even came to the club-house to guide the directionally challenged to the venue. Gary Cooney having miraculously recovered from his back problems joined the dinner.
After one look at the assembled KLOGS members and guests and fearing the worst the restaurant owner suggested we have the prize giving before dinner.
El Pres welcomed the guests and thanked our sponsors Old Club House, Wines Direct and City Golf. Past El Pres Des Hassan was welcomed back as a member. After announcing the winners and novelty awards members were invited to nominate the COTD.
- El Pres started off by nominating Gary Cooney for something about asking his wife to be his Face-book friend. Let’s hope he doesn’t put up too much about KLOGS on Facebook or the world and more importantly El Pres wife will know everything!!! This narration took some time so that the Scribe lost the plot as the 4th course pork knuckle arrived.
- A tongue in cheek nomination for Bernhard came in for slow play (the flight behind only caught up on the last hole).
- Gary Cooney was again nominated for asking for to play on a premier course and then not being able to play.
- Des Hassan called his male caddie a cunt and was pulled up for caddie abuse.
Gary Cooney received the prestigious COTD award hands down.
Dinner was excellent and Barry deserves a big Thank You for organizing this part.
El Pres mentioned that the May away is a toss-up between Pattaya and Siem Riep. Further investigations are being undertaken by your tireless committee.
