Fine Food, Fine Wine & Fantastic Caddies !!!
Rahman Putra, Lakes Course, showed its teeth again proving that this venue is one of the more challenging on the KLOGS calendar. Start again. This is meant to be original new material and not just a copy of Klaus’s December report.
Twenty Kloggers turned up to play the Lakes course which was in its usual good condition, good greens with fairways with some run. Play got off on time and with a short interruption for rain and thunder 5 flights returned back to the club house shortly after 6pm. Scoring was generally respectable for this tough course.
The results of the day are as follows:
- 1st – Karl Muir with 83 for 43 points (cut 7)
- 2nd – Stuart Taylor 87 for 41 points (cut 2)
- 3rd – Mike Smith 96 for 37 points (cut 1) ocb from Geoff McClaws
- NTP front nine – A sleeve of balls went to Roger Suirieux
- NTP back nine – A sleeve of balls went to Allan Wright
- Longest Drive – Geoff McLaws a sleeve of balls with an enormous 247m (a repeat of his December achievement)
- Lowest gross – Geoff McLaws 82
- Last Birdie – Richard Rodwell on the 13th, a sleeve of balls
Fines – Lucrative
Caddies – Fantastic !!!
The full results are:
After the game we retired to the club restaurant expectant of the reliable mushroom soup followed by fish ‘n’ chips. There was great disappointment when food carousels appeared and further derision when uncovered they revealed a variety of greasy and barely warm dishes. Memories of school dinners came back to many. In the furore no one seemed to notice that Money Bags and Richard Rodwell had completely screwed up the ordering of the days wine and they both escaped without further censure.
El Pres welcomed our sole guest of the day Roger Suirieux followed by a sad farewell to Allan McNicoll who is shortly leaving for Cape Town. We all wish Allan well and are sure he will back to play with us again in the future. Cape Town for the November away !!!!
El Pres gave an update that the May Away is planned to be held in Hua Hin Thailand.
El Pres thanked our sponsors Old Club House, Wines Direct and the Renaissance Hotel KL.
After the novelty prizes the winner’s mug went to Karl who struggled to down the amber nectar, Stuart Taylor coming in 2nd quickly took possession of a bottle of red wine which swiftly disappeared into his bag for drinking at a later time !!!!, and Mike Smith a sleeve of balls for coming 3rd.
COTD nominations:-
- Karl Muir for taking an age to down his victors drink and also for taking off his shoes and socks to play out of water.
- Stuart Taylor was nominated by Rick Brown for losing his clubs, losing his buggy and losing his caddie, in other words for not being in control of his caddie (an award should have been given to anyone who could control their caddie, enough said)
- Jacko for dodging the rain on the advice of his caddie that it would last for hours, phone abuse and failing to reach the ladies tee inspite of favourable assistance from the nearby buggy track
- El Pres for the shocking food.
El Pres showed his true potential by ensuring the voting took place only between Karl & Stuart, with Stuart triumphing, (nobody could wait that long again to watch Karl try and down another mug). Stuart went on to show him how it was done.
El Pres wished everyone a Happy Chinese New Year and looked forward to seeing everyone at the March adventure.
The new banners arranged by John Arkinstall were well used and El Pres even remembered to collect them at the day’s conclusion.
