27 members and one guest came out to KGSAAS for the begin of the 2015 season. The course was in reasonably good shape, although some of the greens had been repaired and were a bit patchy. 7 flights started on time, with four flights on President and three on Alam Shah. El Pres decided on white tees, which allowed the oldies amongst us to at least have the illusion of reaching the greens in regulation. There were some amazing scores with the winners all on 45 points, having to be decided on count back to the last 3 holes. 10 Players broke 90 with Al Guthries’ 74 the best of the day.

The results of the day are as follows:

  • 1st  – Tony Morris with 88 for 45 points ocb (cut 9)
  • 2nd  – Stuart Taylor 84 for 45 points ocb (cut 2)
  • 3rd  – Martin Burke 84 for 45 points ocb (cut 1)
  • NTP Al Guthrie – 2ft 10 inches
  • NTP back nine – Berhard Rohman 11ft 10 inches
  • Longest Drive – Paul Geddes 248m
  • Lowest gross – Al Guthrie 74
  • Last Birdie – Martin

At this point it should be mentioned that Tom Holmes generously offered to have his handicap lowered from 27 to 18 based on his sterling performance during the last Away. To come in 4th  with a staggering 43 points and then to have his handicap going up to 19 for the next game is masterstroke in handicap management.

We had an excellent dinner at The Empress Garden Chinese restaurant. El Pres, who could not play due to work commitments, announced that Tony Morris and El Pres had recent birthdays and would both sponsor the drinks. This was met by enthusiastic applause.

After welcoming our guest Siegfried, El Pres then gave away the novelty and winner’s prizes. There were several COTD nominations. The 3 put to the vote were:

•  Guest Siegfried Glantznig (hcp 22!!!) achieving an eagle

•  Crackers for being away so long, still being alive and having more hair than Iain Wise and his father put together

•  Robert for shouting on a green “ Why are my balls not rolling?!!!”

Not surprisingly Robert was unanimously voted the first COTD for 2015.

The venue for the next KLOGS game in February 2015 is yet to be announced. Since the 3rd  Wednesday falls on the start of CNY the date may be brought forward.

 Annual AGM

El Pres opened the proceedings with a mercifully short review of 2014 and the Aways. Our overseas members continue to come from afar to join the Aways. They play more games with KLOGS than many local members. This issue of non-attendance is now a matter for the next committee.

During the past 6 months or so KLOGS has been managed by a committee of 3. The post of VP is really redundant. Support during the Aways is always available from the touring group.

El Pres thanked our loyal sponsors for their support and announced that all of them (Al Guthrie, Richard Rodwell and Robert Frager) have pledged to continue sponsoring KLOGS in 2015.

El Pres handed over to Moneybags who has skillfully managed the accounts. Andrew showed that the 2014 accounts had a surplus of about RM 2,400 and that the kitty stands at about RM 9,000. In true democratic fashion the accounts were passed by the membership. There is an inventory of KLOGS shirts, which Moneybags would like to get rid of since they are filling the boot of his car. The XXXL size shirts are reserved for Brian Jeffers. No explanation needed. The award of a bottle of fine wine each for attending 8 or more games during 2014 went to (Andrew R., Iain Wise, Stuart Taylor, Paul Geddes, Ray Funnell, Rick Brown and Klaus.

El Pres then announced that Ray Funnell has accumulated the most stableford points from the best 9 games he played in 2014 He was duly awarded the Klogger of the Year Trophy. Well done Ray!

The most prestigeous award KLOGS has each year is the Cunt of the Year (COTY). 24 members kindly bothered to vote. Runner-up based on some hilarious reasons was Richard Rodwell. Alas no cigar. Winner of the 2014 COTY is Wayne Beck. El Pres recounted some of Wayne’s escapades during the Aways to the amusement of those present.

El Pres thanked Andrew and Klaus for helping to make the “committee experience” enjoyable and brief.

Based on nominations and / or arm-twisting the new KLOGS committee was voted in and installed.

  • El Pres: Martin Walsh
  • Moneybags (again) Andrew Robinson
  • Scribe: Iain Wise

There were no other nominations. The new committee was voted in by acclamation.

Incoming El Pres Martin presented a trophy to the past El Pres Rick Brown. He then gave a short speech, which gave the membership a taste of Martin’s humour and things to come.

John Arkinstall was then invited to present two portable banners featuring the KLOGS Way of playing golf. I can see touring members clamouring to carry these banners on the Aways. Thank you John for the idea. It was suggested that the real reason for the banners is to point members to the booze after a game.

The issue of “the Blog” came up, which was maintained by an overseas non-member. This is to be resolved.

Our sponsors are a main reason that we can play at good golf courses and award members with trophies, attractive prizes as well as “KLOGS” signature golf balls. In order to show our appreciation we encourage members to support our sponsors.
