Angeles City, Philippines

The Players
Ten KL Kloggers, three overseas Kloggers and two guests made their way from KL, UK, Oz and Bangkok to the quaint village of Angeles on the Filipino Island of Luzan. The Klogs tour veterans welcomed first time touring members Bernie and Hans, and guests Jim and Vincent.
There were no committee members on tour, so past Prez Rick Brown took on the tour lead duties, and past Moneybags Raymond Keys reclaimed the role he performs with such relish.
Awayday Overview
The daytime weather was great, the courses were close by, the evening beverages were cold, cheap and plentiful, the bars were fun and never closed, and the competition went down to the wire. The general consensus was that this was a very successful tour.
What more could you ask for ?
Some better greens, a decent bus, and tour shirts that didn’t make us look like a bunch of past‐it gay jockeys came the reply !
Day 1 – May Monthly Medal
As the Kloggers on the official tour flight trudged bleary eyed to their dawn flight, the five Angeles early‐birds spent the morning warming up in the gymn before heading for the tour bus that Simon had kindly diverted via the hotel.
Unfortunately the tour bus turned out to be dodgy mini‐bus that theoretically had sixteen seats if all the fold‐ups along the aisle were used. After successfully arguing that 15 golfers, cases and clubs weren’t all going to fit, a second “baggage” bus was eventually organised. This arrangement lasted the entire tour, which was manageable due to the short distances to the courses, but was not ideal. Back to the big buses next time Simon.
After the airport pick‐up, we headed the short distance to the Royal Garden Golf and Country Club for the May monthly medal.
This course looked promising 3 years ago, but the greens are now very poor and the fancy Roman statues couldn’t disguise the poor condition of the course.
Day 1 Winners
Bernie 79
Tom 93
Hans 89
NTP1 Rikki, NTP2 Jim, LD Vincent, Last Birdie ‐ , Gross Klaus
CotD Bruce – for getting waylaid between the airport and course.
44 Golf Club + Tankard (A fantastic performance!) 43 Wine
40 City Golf
Day 2 – Away Competition (First Day)
We headed off to Luisita Golf and Country Club for the first day of the Awayday Medal. This was apparently one of the top 100 courses in the world a few years ago, this isn’t the case now but some TLC would make a huge difference.
To give the rest of us a chance, Bernie was knobbled with a ‐8 cut, and there were also minor cuts for Tom (‐2) and Hans (‐1).
The tour shirts were worn with pride.
Day 2 Winners
David 97
37 Tankard
Hans 92 36
Tom 98 36
NTP1 Bruce, NTP2 Bernie, LD Klaus, Last Birdie ‐ , Gross Rikki
CotD Jacko – for gargling antiseptic footwash and boasting about
being CotD free for 10 years.
A belated nomination for Acting Prez Rick B for denying Hans and Tom their rightful novelty prizes because he mistakenly thought they’d won sponsored prizes.
Day 3 – Away Competition (Second and Final Day)
Next was Fontana Korea Country Club for the last day of the Awayday Medal. This course was much better, although it came with a hefty beverage price, there was no aprez‐golf here.
There was a gripping race for 10th, with Tony repeatedly slowing down his flight so he could update his 3D spreadsheets and run more monte‐carlo simulations to calculate what score he needed for the money. He finished 9th !
Up at the pointy end, David, Tom, Hans and Klaus all set off with hopes of glory. Although they both shot fine 38’s, Klaus and Hans soon fell behind the blistering pace of the other two. Tom went ahead, but David caught him in the closing stages.
Day 3 Winners
Tom 87
David 90 44 Klaus 96 38
47 Tankard
NTP1 Tony,
CotD
NTP2 David, LD Vincent, Last Birdie Hans , Gross Bernie Tom – for gaining two feet every time he marked a ball.
After going out in front and shooting a superb 44 points, surely David had done enough. But no, Tom’s 47 was just too good. Congratulations to the 2012 May Awayday Champion ‐ TOM HOLMES !!!
Overall Scores

Tom’s jockey Rikki was happy, as was Rikki’s jockey Hans. Tony wasn’t !
Brian Jeffers also generously donated a beautiful dog‐themed prize for the 15th overall player, which I am sure will take pride of place on Bruce’s mantelpiece.
Day 4 – Mexican Scramble Team Game
The last days golf was at the superb Mimosa Golf and Country Club. This was a
great course with stunning views and excellent F&B.
Tony spent the previous evening calculating the “fairest” teams for the money game. The plans went awry when the four lowest scorers on tour all found form at the same time.
1. Jacko,Brian,BruceandVincent
2. Rick,Ray,PeterKandJim 3. Rikki,Klaus,TonyandDavid 4. Bernie,Hans,TomandAlex

Hans picked up the only novelty prize of the day (NPT), and
again for a combination of reasons, including caddy abuse and scaring Ray by pretending to be a talcum zombie.
Jacko then proceeded to spray the CotD beer over Brian. It’s too cold and gassy he whined !
There was one remaining sleeve of balls so there was an additional CotT prize, which unsurprisingly also went to Jacko. He skulled this one, although we all had our umbrella’s up just in case.
Other Nominations
A couple of other nominations which possibly deserved the beery ball were as follows:

  •   Brian taking numerous swishes in the reeds before launching his 8‐iron into the middle of the lake, and telling his caddy to fetch.
  •   Jacko for falling in the water during a shot
  •   An unnamed person who is most definitely not a lawyer allegedly saying
cheating is ok if no‐one can see you. Allegedly.
    Sponsors and Organisers
As always, our thanks are extended to the valued and generous supporters of KLOGS.
CotD was Jacko
  • –  ‘The Old Clubhouse’ ‐ Golf Club Vouchers
  • –  ‘Wines Direct’ ‐ Bottles of Wine – ‘City Golf’ ‐ Simulator Vouchers

– ‘Renaissance Hotel’ ‐ Taylormade Golf Balls
Similarly, a big thank you is extended to Simon Ng of Liberty Travel for organizing another successful Klogs awayday, and also for topping up the balls for the novelty prizes.
Last Words
Angeles is a great venue, and should be part of the regular roster of Klogs awayday venues.
Brian Jeffers has suggested that the next tour is opened up to WAGs for a more rounded touring experience. The committee can give this the appropriate amount of consideration.
Final thanks to all the tourers for making this an enjoyable weekend, and especially to Rick Brown and Raymond Keys for standing in and doing such a great job.

The next page presents the tour stats.
