Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia

19th February, 2014

Rahman Putra is one of the more challenging golf courses on The KLOGS calendar. Designed by the late Tun Ghafar Baba, a one-time Deputy Prime Minister, the 36 hole course offers two choices: The Lakes and The Hills. 19 KLOGS members and guests teed off from the white in two flight groups on the Lakes course. The course was in good condition with true but tricky greens. The numerous blind shots over the undulating fairways added a degree of difficulty. It should be mentioned that the dreaded Par 3 2nd hole, once voted the 2nd most difficult hole in Malaysia, has had its teeth pulled. The tee boxes have been moved far to the right making the approach much easier.

The winners for February are:

  • 1st place: Robert Frager 89 gross 39 points
  • 2nd place: Frank Mackenzie 94 gross 35 points (ocb)
  • 3rd place: Stuart Taylor 91 gross 35 points

Rahman Putra put on the usual excellent fish and chips. The portions were a bit on the large side but who’s complaining.

El Pres while waiting for the winner’s mug to be filled thanked the sponsors and gave an overview of the next May Away. VP Rick Brown had done a comparison between Phuket and Chiang Mai. The costs for Phuket are prohibitive. Chiang Mai it is from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 26th May 2014. Ground costs based on a party of 16 is RM 1970 which includes hotel, golf, caddies and ground transport (caddie tips not included). The Hotel is Imperial Mae Ping.

On 22nd AirAsia leaves at 06.55 a.m.!! El Pres suggested travelling a day earlier. Return Flight leaves at 16.55 arriving at 20.45.

The order of play will be:

  • Inthanon
  • Alpine
  • Highlands
  • Royal Chiang Mai

COTD Nominations:

  • Andrew Robinson spilling his lunch onto his shirt on Tuesday and wearing the same shirt on Wednesday’s KLOGS game
  • Allan McNicoll for impersonating the Scribe by wearing a KLOGS shirt with “Scribe”
  • Stuart Taylor for soliciting Andrew to unzip to show the colour of his underwear.

Stuart received the honour of being COTD for February. As an aside: Due to medical reasons Stuart was excused from drinking the customary spiked COTD beer. Having remembered that Allan McNicoll had already downed a mug when receiving the engraved January winner’s trophy Stuart quickly nominated Allan to drink the COTD chalice.

Our sponsors are a main reason that we can play at good golf courses and award members with trophies, attractive prizes as well as “KLOGS” signature golf balls. In order to show our appreciation we encourage members to support our sponsors.
