Scribe Report
Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah and AGM
15th January, 2014

KGSAAS is well-known among amateur golfers including KLOGS members. The course layout provides plenty of challenges, but also rewards accurate strikes. 19 KLOGS members and 5 guests teed off from the white in two flight groups on the Alam Shah and President nines. The course was generally in good condition. Due to the heavy rains there were some wet areas. The greens on the President nine had been sanded and were hardly Presidential!! El Pres wisely decreed that winter rules apply. The weather held up and surprisingly we escaped a deluge.

A re-count of all submitted score cards showed that there were errors in about one third of the results. These errors were mainly regarding the Stableford points. Attributing the correct Stableford points seems to be a challenge. This is surprising since both marker and player should come to the correct points. It would also be helpfully if everybody took the time to write it in a legible way some of you would make a doctor proud with your handwriting!! Fairness and accurate statistics demand that the corrected gross scores and points are recorded here. The score cards will be kept with the Scribe for a short period if anyone wishes to dispute the results. The first winners on the podium for 2014 are:
- 1st place: Alan McNicoll 94 gross 41 points
- 2nd place: Bernie Schobert 83 gross 40 points
- 3rd place: Ray Funnell 96 gross 39 points

- NTP front nine: Ted Parslow 4’6”
- NTP back nine: Des Hassan 7’5”
- Longest Drive: Brian Imrie 245m (Des Hassan had 257m but already had a prize)
- Last Birdie: Iain Wise
- Lowest Gross: Paul Geddes 84 (Bernie Schobert 83 but came in 2nd)
The full results are as follows:

The post game prize-giving, dinner and AGM were held in a function room of the Empress Garden F & B outlet. We were joined for dinner by past El Pres Roddy Foo and Iain Wise’s’ Dad.
After an initial delay due to a cock-up of the results list (the club used Stableford 36 software) El Pres announced the winners and presented the winner’s trophy to Allan McNicoll, 2nd and third prizes as well as novelty prizes.
El Pres welcomed the guests and thanked the loyal sponsors Old Club House, Wines Direct and Renaissance Hotel.
The call for COTD resulted in the following nominations:
- El Pres for screwing up the prizes
- El Pres and Ted squabbling over which ball belonged to them
- Iain Wise for having less hair than his father
- Barry Cousins for unzipping Ted’s fly????
- Tony Morris for reaching a par 5 in 3 blistering shots only to need further 6 shots to get in the hole
No vote was needed: Iain Wise took the honours.

After a superb meal the 2013 AGM was called to order.

El Pres gave a mercifully short overview of the year highlighting the Aways. Special mention and thanks were given to Simon Ng, of Liberty Travel for excellent organisation and fair pricing of the away tours. At present there is an active membership of around 30 with an average of 16 playing each monthly event. The circulation list will be culled due to non appearance and non-payment of dues during the last 12 months. El Pres stressed the importance of having three loyal sponsors, not least contributing to a healthy financial status.
Money Bags presented the annual financial accounts. All supporting documents are kept as if to be audited. The accounts for 2013 were approved by the membership.
El Pres then raised the question of monthly fees, annual subs and entrance fees for new members. The monthly fee has not been raised for at least 3 years. The proposal to raise the monthly fee to RM 250 for members and RM 280 for guests from the next event was accepted by the vast majority. The committee will have the option to increase the fee for a premium course.
After some discussion it was decided and accepted by the attending membership to keep the annual dues for current members at RM 100. From 2015 onwards the joining fee for new members will be RM 150.
El Pres stated that no email nominations for any committee posts had been received. Andrew Robinson (Money Bags) and Klaus Kretzschmar (Scribe) indicated their willingness to continue serving the membership. This was accepted by acclamation.
Rick Brown was nominated from the floor for the post of VP, which he accepted and was duly elected by the membership by show of hands.
Karl Muir was nominated from the floor for an additional term as EL Pres. No other nominations were received, Karl accepted and was duly elected as El Pres. El Pres then presented the Trophy for KLOGGER of the Year to Iain Wise who deservedly won, albeit by a very narrow margin.
The voting for COTY showed a landslide “victory” for Andrew Robinson who received the prestigious trophy for the second time since becoming a KLOGS member. He must be doing something right.
Des Hassan, Karl Muir, Klaus, Ray Funnell and Iain Wise each received the customary bottle of wine for attending 8 or more games in the calendar year. With the official part over the event took on a more light-hearted note and much wine and beer was consumed.
Keeping up the tradition of being a contender for COTY Andrew Money Bags forgot to collect the “honesty jugs” i.e. not getting over the ladies tee. Those gentlemen who fall into that category are kindly requested to pay Money Bags RM 50 at their earliest convenience.
The presence of the current EL Pres and 6 past EL Pres presented an opportunity to take a commemorative photo. One can see that the Aways have taken their toll with all the hard work that goes into carrying out such events.
