January 2023 Game – Glenmarie (Valley Course)

Glenmarie G&CC is becoming familiar ground for some and let’s say it also becoming a favourite. The Valley course once again lived up to its reputation with slick greens and challenging lies.

After another ‘stuff up’ by the starters our 6 flights tee’d off from the 1st and 10th with those three flights off 10 being held up by some very slow groups in front. This resulted in the groups off 10 finishing up to an hour after the groups off tee box 1.

Eventually, everyone arrived at Pantai Seafood and proceedings began. The restaurant was quick to serve the food once everyone was seated as the kitchen was soon to close.

El Pres opened by welcoming two new inductees, Dave Pearce and Kenny Carmichael and apologised on behalf of Tom Henson who decided to have a small operation instead of further contributing to the world population, er, playing golf. Well done Tom.

AGM

Then the business side of the luncheon began with the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The following are not to be taken as minutes of the AGM but merely a summary of the awards and outcomes.

El Pres announced that there were no requests to changes to the Constitution.

Accounts for 2021 showed a deficit of RM2000, while accounts for 2022 show a surplus of RM961, somehow! Resolution accepted.

We then toasted our fallen members in 2022, Geoffrey Parslow and Haikum Malik. RIP.

Two very successful away’s in 2022, the first in May to Phnom Phen, Cambodia and the second to Chonburi Province in Thailand. Both were awesome trips and members or guests are encouraged to participate in the future.

Which brings us to the various champions for 2022.

KLOGGER of the year was determined on the basis of any player who had played a minimum of 6 games for 2022.

3rd Place – on an average of 36.8 points over the 6 games – Stan Constantinides

[Stan was absent on the day given that he was on a quick three day trip to Bangkok.]

2nd Place – on an average of 37 points over the 6 games –     Paul Geddes (El Pres)

1st Place – on an average of 37.3 points over the 6 games –   Clive Gordon

Siggy Maierbrugger was announced as the golfer needing the most improvement for 2022.

COTY for 2022

El Pres showed his tenacity to claim this prestigious award with his many showings as the COTD throughout the year.

Well done Paul!

Committee positions were determined to remain much the same:

  • Paul Geddes – Remains president (shouldn’t have done such a good job Paul)
  • Iain Wise – Remains as the Vice President of Vice
  • Geoff McLaws – Scribe
  • Michael Fernier-Smith – Money bags.

Of course, these games would not be possible without the assistance of our sponsors:

Siggy for his continued support through his ball sponsorship.

Ricardo for his generous wine contributions.

Next game to be at Sungai Long on 15th February 2023.
