March 2018 Game – Glenmarie Golf & Country Club

The March game, was played on the picturesque Glenmarie Garden course. With one late drop out, 23 players including 3 guests (Niall Murray, Hakan Kulp, guest of Jimmy & Lim Chin Hong, guest of Victor) teed off ahead of schedule just before 1-00pm with the usual 2 tee box start.

The course was in great shape and had fully recovered from the trampling crowds of the recent EuroAsia Cup.

The weather was fine and the threatened afternoon downpour turned out to be only a short shower, the weather Gods definitely being in our favour. We were all round with the exception of one slow flight before 5-15pm.

We then headed off to La La Chong Seafood restaurant in Ara Damansara for the post-game dinner. Most players managed to arrive there in reasonable time with the exception of Hans Berger who had gone to the other La La Chong adjacent to Pantai Seafood. After several phone calls and directions Hans called EL PRES from the nearby TESCO supermarket. Rather than attempt further directions EL PRES went to get him, so by 7-15pm we were all present and correct.

The food was selected by El Pres accompanied by numerous jugs, plus some good wines provided by RICHARD RODWELL (our sponsor for the wine prize).

The score sheets for the novelties were supposed to be collected by the last flight. The club however decided to collect these contrary to the instructions they had given to the group before the round, consequently the score sheet were left at the club. For the longest drive there seemed to be some confusion also as to where this had been measured from. EL PRES therefore gave the longest drive prize to Hans Berger for his trek around the back roads of Ara Damansara and for his persistence and not surrendering to the annoyances of using WAZE. It is worth noting that a map was sent to all players clearly showing the post-game venue. Members should always check this rather than be solely reliant on WAZE or GOOGLE maps.

For the NTP’s we relied on the honesty and memory of the members. NTP hole 2 was awarded to Niall Murray and NTP on hole 17 to Ron Linden. Last Birdie went to Allan Wright.

  • NTP winner : Hole 2 : Niall Murray
  • NTP winner : Hole 17 : Ron Linden
  • Longest drive : Hans Berger (20,500m as measured on the Volvo odometer)
  • Last birdie : Allan Wright hole 15

COTD

For the debacle of the Novelties and one or two other misdemeanors COTD was awarded to EL PRES.

The May Away will be to Vung Tau, Vietnam from 15-20th May 2018. (16 players have paid deposits, full payment to be made before 23 April to EL PRES and not to Liberty Travel). We have one on the wait list, if we could get at least 1 further player we would go with 18.
