“Twas the game before Christmas……”
The December game was held at the immaculate Palm Garden Golf Club and attracted a record turnout.
31 players including 8 guests (Victor Yong, Joe Lacy, Rik Borger, Dave Savage, Rafael Matos, Paul Collett, Kaz Takita & Jurg Stoll) teed-off on time off the blue tees with a 2 tee box start. (It should have been 32 players but Mahmud was a no-show).
The course and greens were in very good condition, so the balls were running well, providing you were on the fairway. If you weren’t, it was a different matter !
The weather was initially hot though with rain threatening towards the late afternoon but fortunately holding off, apart from a brief shower. The 3 ball flight was finished ~ 5pm but the 4 balls were naturally slower so finished between 5.30 & 6pm. Flight 4 was delayed further as Kaswira had a superb Hole-in-One on #17 so there was a process to go through of registering it.
As a result, we had initially to consume as much of the Rm2000 H-in-1 prize money as possible at the club before making our way by various routes to the East of Highway restaurant where we were joined by Barry Cousins and enjoyed good food ordered by El Pres, accompanied by numerous bottles of beer, plus good wines provided by Ricardo Castro & Richard Rodwell (our sponsor for the wine prize), both unfortunately absent. The evening wrapped up for most ~ 10pm.
Results
Some good scores today with 3 players bettering their handicaps. The December medal winner was Dan Brod, with an excellent score of 88 for 43 (cut 7 !). Second was Robert Frager with 93 for 37 (cut 2) ahead of Geoff McLaws with 79 for 36 (cut 1), decided on count back from Edwin Ferner (97/36). Our guest Victor (selfie) Yong recorded the second best gross & stableford scores of the day with 84 for 42 (the committee will be reviewing his handicap before his next game and taking away his selfie stick !).

Full results below.

- NTP winner #2 : Andrew Robinson (5.4m)
- NTP winner #17 : Kaswira (Hole-in One)
- Longest Drive : Berni Schobert (200.27m)
- Lowest gross : Paul Geddes (91)
- Last birdie : Joe Lacy (#12)
Apart from on the golf course where he had a dire day, your scribe also struggled with compiling the scores with a number of people submitting scores which were almost illegible or did not tie-up. Fines may be dished out in the future !

COTD
We had 4 nominations this month for COTD.
- Stan C – for various misdemeanors, including losing his ball off his drive, returning to the tee with Roger S, hitting his ball in the water then abusing his caddy for pointing out the obvious !
- Pietro – for arguing excessively with your scribe about his score (and possibly for his footwear)
- Andrew – for a low shot which hit a sign and rotated it, then not returning it to its original position and for not paying his bar bill before the game, so having to be chased by the F&B staff
- Geoff – for not getting/giving Paul G relief for a staked tree ?
With Stan winding him up nicely, thereby deflecting attention from his own nomination, the unanimous winner of this award was Pietro (“bullsh*t”) Martucci.
Fines
9 honesty jugs this month (Paul C (2), Rik, Franz, Jurg, Rafa (2), Ted & Roger) plus numerous other smaller fines for various misdemeanors (El Pres clearly learning from absent fines master Martin Walsh)
