The Day’s Play

Steve Ryder (co-Scribe)’s first game report, so be kind and gentle with praise or insults.

A great day after massive levels of stress for the organising committee – who’s in, who’s out, who’s paid, who still has to pay? It is up to all members and their guests to be clean and clear on their availability and payments. Without the
organising committee there are no games.

A good early start at the Jack Nicklaus Signature course (reportedly the first international standard course in Malaysia) and ideal for the older fellows as still using imperial yardage ……. The greens were a mixed bag of quality but everyone had a good, pretty hot, day.

Going forward we should all strive to minimize the stress of the organising committee. ChezPrez is sufficiently stressed before, during and after. Iain is only 32 years old but has years of organising committee stress.

NTP’S AND NOVELTIES

NTP hole 3 – 176 yds – Index 5 …… No one

NTP hole 14 – 121 yds – Index 16 …… Pietro 6.50m
NTP hole 17 – 157 yds – Index 4 ……. Des 4.12m

A potential points festival on par 3’s for anyone with a 22 and above handicap as
evidenced by a 5 pointer – well done Tony!

Last birdie of the day went to Iain Wise.

PLACINGS

Lowest Gross went to Alistair with a very respectable 79 but could have been a low 70’s round if he could just putt a little harder.

Nominations for COTD

There were several nominations for COTD as below:

Joe was considered safe for the day

Clive (obviously for the putt out instruction)

Chappy for hitting a shot onto someone’s kitchen

Iain for taking TEN shots to get into the bunker before retiring hurt on that hole

Chappy for being loud about the NTP bag before the game as “he would be the only one needing it” and after zero NTP recordings from his flight, was awarded COTD for February 2026

Spill over from January was the prestigious COTY award and this was given a great deal of thought and consideration and the winner was Matt Hall, runner up Joe.

The Day’s Play

We had perfect golfing weather at the excellent Glenmarie Valley. Conditions were cool and slightly overcast with buggy on course for most of the holes. The days play started with two flights from both tee box 1 and 10. Play was fast and we finished in good time.

Lunch was taken at Restaurant Twelve, where we had a turnout of sixteen Players + honorary member, Richard Moss and Chez who could not play due to injury. The usual excellent food washed down with 60 bottles of beer. Iain welcomed our new guests, Laurance Beattie and Miguel Morales.

There was a great turn our of old Tankards, Allan’s from 2003 and Tony’s from 2004. Let’s see if we can get more next year.

Congratulations to Chez for becoming our El Pres. In his acceptance speech he expressed sincere gratitude for the outgoing Pres of 5 years, Paul Geddes. This was warmly applauded by all the members. Thanks again Paul.

Our new El Pres did say that he would not be able to emulate Paul by being on the piss till 5am and playing golf a few hours later.

Chez played his first game for Klogs in 2002 and encouraged all members to try and attend every game. He thanked Sigi and Ricardo, our sponsors, these past few years. Chez says that he is very happy with the way the society has been run and only minor tweaks would be needed to improve things.

SCRIBE REPORT

18TH SEPTEMBER 2024

It was good to see EL Pres continuing with his recovery after being fitted with his new bionic knee.  Play got underway on time at 8:00am. However, when the 3 flights assigned to start on the second nine arrived at tee box 10, they were blocked by a 6 ball who were just teeing off. It was quickly decided to jump ahead and start on holes 11 and 12. The leap frogging to avoid further jumbo flights continued throughout the round. Flights 4 & 5 eventually formed their own jumbo flight to complete the last 4 holes of their round. The weather was cooling with a couple of slight showers. The course was in good condition and the greens were fair and true.  The first 3 flights finished in good time, however flights 4 & 5 the magnificent seven were severely delayed.

Chez in trouble on 10         Klog‘s jumbo flight the Magnificent Seven

Lunch was scheduled to be held at East of Highway but following a phone call the day before we were advised they were closed. Arrangements were quickly adjusted and we adjourned to Pantai Seafood instead. With a couple of no shows the 15 diners squeezed on to one table, this required serious intervention by EL PRES to ensure everyone had sufficient elbow room. Food selection was simple as we ordered form the Pantai 20th Anniversary Celebration Menu. Once the late arrival from flights 4 & 5 had arrived lunch was served.  The food was excellent albeit a tad expensive. Plenty of cold beer was downed.

EL PRES got the prize giving underway by welcoming our guests Steve Hennessey, Peter Davies and Brian Stubbs. Before moving on to the prizes he fined all those that didn’t play the course in the correct order. As there was an absence of any Ladies Tee Boxes he continued in fine mode and collected a total of 180 MYR for all the misdemeanours.

On to the NTP’s.
