Seventeen Kloggers, including a return for Richard Parr made the journey to Nilai Springs, the course was in surprisingly good condition considering the incessant rain Malaysia has recently experienced. We had a split start and teed off shortly after one o’clock playing the Mango and Island nines. The scoring was generally good with the course playing well. We were all round before 5:45pm.

The results of the day were as follows:

  • 1st – Hans Bohl 83 for 46 points (cut 10) well done!!!!
  • 2nd – Enzo Filoni 95 for 41 points (cut 2)
  • 3rd – Berhard Romahn 85 for 40 points (cut 1)
  • NTP front nine – A sleeve of balls went to Geoff McLaws
  • NTP back nine – A sleeve of balls went to Hans Bohl
  • Longest Drive – Richard Rodwell 271 metres
  • Lowest gross – Geoff McLaws 84
  • Last Birdie – Richard Parr – Welcome back

Fines – Miserly –

No Jugs. Andrew Barber fined 50 Rm for pre-booked Caddie. Thanks to Bernhard Romahn who paid 50rm as there were no fines.

After the game we had the longest drive rerun as we dined at Pantai Seafood in Damansara Jaya 60.25 km from the course. Thirteen attended, the last straggler arriving just before eight. Thanks to Rick for standing in for El Pres and booking the restaurant and making a good selection from the vast menu. The reduced numbers still managed to see off several bottles of wine and twenty two bottles of beer. The food being to the usual reliable standard for Pantai worth the drive.

COTD nominations:-

  • Allan Wright for having a bet with Richard Rodwell as to who would get to the restaurant first
  • Berhard Romahn who lives only a stones throw away from the restaurant was the last to arrive having taken the slowest  route.
  • Richard Rodwell on the first hole taking an excessive amount of time to search for his ball alongwith various other  misdemeanours

After some rather lethargic voting Richard Rodwell was duly awarded June COTD.

KLOGS has not played at Nilai Springs for quite a while. The course did not disappoint, with firm fairways and true greens. Taking up El Pres’ suggestion we played off the white tees since the course length exceeded 6,000 meter.

Due to one “no-show” we were 11 members and 2 guests resulting in the dreaded number of 13 players making up three 3-ball and one 4-ball flights. The starter allowed 2 flights each to tee off from Mango or Island nines.

The results of the day are as follows:

  • 1st – Richard Rodwell with 85 for 41 points (cut 5)
  • 2nd – Barry Cousins 99 for 37 points (cut 2)
  • 3rd – Iain Wise 98 for 36 points (cut 1)
  • NTP front nine – Richard Rodwell
  • NTP back nine – none (there was no NTP)
  • NTL Ray Funnel with a cocks length
  • Longest Drive – Richard Rodwell 219m
  • Lowest gross – Richard Rodwell 85
  • Last Birdie – none claimed

After the game we had a mediocre dinner in a private room. This put a serious dent into Moneybag’s coffers. Nilai will not see us using their F&B again.

In the absence of EL Pres, the Scribe supported by Moneybags officiated the further proceedings.

We welcomed the two guests Martin Burke and David Franklin. Martin had now played with us twice. We thanked the sponsors for their continued support.

The email poll conducted by El Pres indicates that we will be going to Phnom Penh for the November Away. El Pres’ recent recce to PP confiormed the promise of a great Tour. Apart from the golf, visiting the numerous French restaurants will be a highlight.

The prize giving followed with two wiiner trophies being presented.

Andrew Barber was presented with the June winners mug.

The winner of the day “Clean Sweep” Richard Rodwell received his trophy and downed the amber contents in one go. This comes with an Old Club House rescue wood voucher. Coming in 2nd place Barry Cousins received bottle of fine red wine. Iain Wise took 3rd place honours receiving a sleeve of balls.

Since Richard Rodwell had a near clean sweep (1st, NTP. LD and lowest gross) there were only a few sleeve of balls to be given away for novelty prizes.

Nilai screwed up the novelties by only putting up one NTP and substituting the second NTP with a “nearest to the line”. Ray Funnel was the only recorded NTL with 4 inches, so he got the sleeve of balls.

COTD nominations:

• Richard Rodwell for demonstrating the power of his armpit odor.

• Andrew Barber sniffing underwear

• Andrew Robinson for missing the Nilai turnoff

• Klaus “the buck stops here” for substituting a NTP with a NTL

• Barry Cousins for wearing a designer track suit pants to the dinner

• Richard Rodwell for trying to distract from himself by nominating everybody else

• Richard Rodwell for asking if anybody had ever had a clean sweep

We therefore unanimously voted for Richard Rodwell as COTD to indeed enable a clean sweep.

The next KLOGS game will be on Wednesday 15th September 2014 at 12 noon. Venue to be announced. Please mark the date in your calendar.
