July 2022 Game – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club

The July 2022 game was held at the Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club.  15 players including 4 guests (Scott Milton, Chris Miller, Chia Weng Lock & Michael Ferner-Smith) with one call-off due to illness, teed-off the whites at 8am with a 2 tee box start.   Flights off #10 progressed well but those off #1 were held up by a 6-ball flight; flight 1 was able to play through but the others were not so fast to catch them up later in the round !   The weather was initially cool, heating up through the morning.

Post-game, 14 golfers enjoyed a substantial meal at Restoran Loon Sing near Nilai, accompanied by numerous jugs of beer & good wines provided as a departing gift by Bernd Kaiser.  The day wrapped up for most ~ 2.30pm.

Results

The July medal winner by a considerable margin was Bernie Schobert with a splendid 80 for 45 (cut 9), with Stan C 2nd with 91 for 37, then Thomas Stadler 3rd on count back from Ricardo Castro, with 86 & 85 for 35 respectively.   Paul Geddes won a sleeve of balls for the lowest gross of 85 (with 30 points).  Bernie nominated Siggi to down his mug

COTD

We had the following (weak) nominations this month for COTD.

  1. Thomas – for hitting a bunker shot & hitting Pietro near his privates
  2. Wee – after a late night, went to wrong entrance that was closed, then had to be guided to club house, then had to go home with a severe hangover. (Ineligible as did not attend the lunch)
  3. Ricardo  – for forgetting his birthday (pin no on locker); denied of course !
  4. Bernd – for donating 6 bottles of wine with failed corks thereby needing a sieve as his parting gift

Bernd in his last KLOGS before departing home unsurprisingly was voted COTD ! Thanks very much for the wine which was decanted and drunk ! Very nice indeed !

Fines

July 2019 Game – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club

The July game was held at the Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club; it’s an interesting & challenging course with some serious elevation changes and attractive scenery.   The weather was hot and slightly overcast throughout but with a pleasant breeze.

IMG_0026

21 players including 1 guest (?) (the late Bernard Romahn) teed-off on time (just) with a two tee box start.  The course itself was in good condition though greens were rather inconsistent and bumpy so some people struggled with their putting.    The only real issue was that the club had allowed a jumbo flight (6 players) to tee-off shortly before our first flight so although they were not in sight on holes 1 & 2, we caught them on hole #3; they did allow one flight to play through on hole #6.  Then at the cross-over, it appeared that other flights teed-off shortly before our first flight came through so the second nine was quite slow.  Despite this, the first flights were finished ~ 5pm.

After the game, we then made our way to the trusty East of Highway restaurant, where we were eventually joined by 5 guests (Richard Moss, Barry Cousins,  Andrew Robinson, John Arkinstall & Ian Durant), then enjoyed good food ordered by El Pres, accompanied by numerous bottles of beer, plus good wines provided by Ricardo Castro (our sponsor for the wine prize).  The evening wrapped up for most ~ 9pm.

Results

3 players bettered their handicaps; the July medal winner was Edwin Ferner, with an excellent score of 92 for 42 (cut 6).   Second was Stuart Taylor with 92 for 41 (cut 2) ahead of Bernd Kaiser with 98 for 38 (cut 1).

  • Lowest gross  : Geoff McLaws (83)
  • Last birdie  : Allan Wright

We had 7 nominations this month for COTD.

  1. Flight 2 – nominated by Nicky for laughing at his putt

September 2017 Game – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club

The September game was held at the relatively-new Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club; this course only opened in 2016 but is now well-regarded by those who have played it because of its interesting & challenging elevation changes and attractive scenery. Only two issues currently detract from the overall experience – they don’t serve beer (!) and have recently suspended their caddy agency so have no caddies; however by paying a small amount extra for buggies-on-course this latter issue is not a significant problem.

20 players including 4 guests (Kaz T, Rafael Matos, Rik Borger & Jurg Stoll) teed-off on time with a two tee box start. The course itself was in very good condition though greens were rather inconsistent so many people struggled with their putting.

The weather was hot and slightly overcast but with a pleasant breeze; rain threatened later in the round however, it held off till all had finished play, after which the heavens opened making the drive to the East of Highway restaurant somewhat treacherous. The first flight was finished by ~ 5.20 pm and the others following soon after.

We all then made our way to the afore-mentioned E of H restaurant, where we were joined by Richard Moss (in training for his coaching role on the next tour), then enjoyed good food ordered by El Pres, accompanied by numerous bottles of beer, plus good wines provided by RICHARD RODWELL (our sponsor for the wine prize). The evening wrapped up for most ~ 8.30pm.

Results

Only 4 players bettered their handicaps; the September medal winner was Ricardo Castro, with an excellent score of 86 for 42 (cut 6 !). Second was Stuart Taylor with 88 for 40 (cut 2) ahead of Robert Frager with 92 for 38 (cut 1).

COTD

We had 4 nominations this month for COTD.

  1. Ricardo – for taking performance-enhancing drugs (which he claimed were anti-biotics !), then attempting to spike his winners beer with Sprite.
  2. Mike Smith – for his interesting choice of head gear at the dinner
  3. Rafael – for his sartorial elegance, showing up the rest of us
  4. Kaz – for hitting OB on a par 5, then hitting his ball into a tree and not playing out

The almost-unanimous winner of this prestigious award was Ricardo (Lance Armstrong) Castro but since he could not even complete his winners jugs because of the afore-mentioned drugs, his prize was kindly downed by runner-up, Rafael Matos.

Fines

Two honesty jugs this month (Ron & John A for failing to reach ladies tee).

November Away

This will be at Hua Hin from 14-19th November; currently have 15 players plus 1 non-playing coach.

October Game
