A difficult day at the office !!

The June game was held at the beautiful but challenging TPC (formerly KLGCC). 20 players including 2 new members (Helmut & Kas) and guest (Siggi, a familiar face at Loose Cannons events) were ready to tee off on time on the East course.
The course itself was in very good condition, except for the greens which were running quite slow & inconsistently. The greens on #10-18 in particular were somewhat rough having recently been cored. Many a putt decided to take a detour on the way to the cup.

However, the organization by the Club was not so good, some might say, extremely poor. Firstly, they put all of us off one tee box (#10) despite the request for a 2 tee box start having been confirmed in the original email booking in May. Then when we all turned up at #10 there were 2 or 3 other flights waiting to tee-off. After some discussions, they sent us all round to #1 but there the situation was the same, so after further discussions, sent us all back to #10 again. At #10, after more discussions, they let one flight tee-off before us, then sent another flight to #12 to move ahead. So eventually, our first flight teed-off ~ 1.20pm.
However, progress was very slow and even by #12, it was becoming very overcast and thunder could be heard nearby. Then at ~2.45pm, with the leading flight only at #15, the sirens sounded and we all had to adjourn to the nearest drinks hut (which was, of course, closed for Ramadan !). Although it never actually rained at that time, other than a few spots, lighting was observed nearby (Stan’s lightning indicator showed ~ 1.3km at nearest).

Eventually, after a delay of 1 ¼ hours (~4pm), we were able to restart but progress was still slow, and then at 6pm it started to rain properly !. Because of this, the light was getting very poor towards the end but all groups eventually finished by ~ 7.45. At the club house, our troubles were still not over as, when the first flight arrived, there were no towels and no soap in some of the showers (wtf !), and then for a couple of the players, on leaving the changing rooms, the club appeared to have mislaid the bag tags (or given them to the wrong person). So, all a bit of a saga, and disappointing given the prestige of this club.
So from 7.45pm onwards, a weary group of golfers made its way to the nearby Decanter pub on Jalan Setiakasih 5, near Plaza Damansara, where they had been patiently waiting for us since 6.30pm. Sadly we lost Siggi & Rick as they both had flights to catch, so with the delay, could not join. Fortunately at the Decanter, having pre-ordered most of the food, it all came very quickly and was generally good with a only a few items indicating they might have been cooking for too long ! Needless to say, it was accompanied by numerous jugs of beer, plus good wines provided by RICHARD RODWELL (our sponsor for the wine prize). The evening wrapped up for most ~ 10pm.
So finally, the results ……
Results
Given the difficult playing conditions mentioned above, it is perhaps not surprising that only two players played to their handicaps, tie-ing at 36 points. The June medal winner was Ron Linden, decided on countback, from Richard Rodwell. Third was our new member, Kas, who had a particularly rewarding induction, with 3rd overall, a NTP at #17, an eagle 2 on #13, an OB honesty jug and wrapping it up with COTD ! (see below).
Full results below.

- NTP winner #5 : Ricardo Castro (25‘)(Richard R(15‘) having a prize for 2nd above)
- NTP winner #17 : None (Kas (4’6”) having a prize for 3rd above)
- Lowest gross : Geoff McC (82)
- Longest drive : David Evans (surprisingly, though noting Geoff teed-off from the blues)
- Last birdie : Bernhard (#14)
COTD
We had 2 primary nominations this month for COTD.
- Kas – for ordering escargot as a starter & for an issue with the soap in the shower (or the lack if it)
- Paul Geddes – for praying to the rain gods on the tee and using a beer can to line up his putt– see photos
Mike Smith made a last minute attempt to nominate your scribe for putting the golf ball into the glass after the beer but was fortunately largely ignored.
Kas was unanimously voted as COTD
Fines
Two honesty jugs this month (Kas & Richard) for OB balls off the tee (not considered to have passed the ladies tee) and two late comers (Geoff & Berni)
Sponsors
Our sponsors are a main reason that we can play at good golf courses and award members with trophies, attractive prizes as well as “KLOGS” signature golf balls. In order to show our appreciation we encourage members to support our sponsors.
